HELP! Cracked CV boot? Whats the worst that can happen?

Hey,

I think i have a cracked cv boot. If i dont change it for another 5000 kms, whats the worst that can happen?

Your axle will break and leave you stranded. That's pretty bad.

i have a new pair of axles for both sides, but if i do just ride it out, will my tranny be damaged? (Is the cv axle lubricated by the tranny fluid? Im pretty sure its just grease in there so if it is cracked, im not leaking anything else but grease correct???)

It's not something you want to put off too long, but if you need to drive a couple thousand km and you're pretty sure the tear happened recently, you should be fine (especially if you have newer axles). I know I'm asking for trouble; I've been driving around on a torn CV on my passenger side for probably 10k miles (maybe more) w/ 140k on my Prelude http://is.rely.net/1-92-30009-l-tEzP...BTGi0jOCgA.gif I suppose it probably puts more strain on the transmission though, since the axles may be harder to rotate because of buildup and lack of grease in the CV joint. However, the CV joint is mainly to help turning; you will probably hear a "clicking" noise when turning when they get bad.

Well its not actually new, its a used set from an ITR i think, but the boots are still fine.

OTHER QUESTION
Every time i start moving my car from neutral to first i get a little chirp, or more of a tire squealing sound. At first, when i used to turn it on the a/c belt would squeal but ever since ive gotten it tightened and it does not squeal anymore.

It only happens in the lower rpms, but im pretty sure it doesnt happen over 3K (hard to tell because of exhaust). The timing belt was recently done and a stage 1 clutch was put in around 5000kms ago. Anyone know what it could be?
