DIY: Integra door handle removal/installation/change door lock
21 Attachment(s)
As with all my DIY's, I do as best I can to remember all the steps and be as helpful as possible. I do make mistakes, I have a bad memory. If there is anything you see that can make this DIY better, or have anything to add, I will be more than happy to update!
DIY: Integra door handle removal/replacement Tools needed: Phillips/flathead screwdriver 10 MM socket/ratchet/extension/wrench ALOT of patience. Time to complete: 1 Hr or less Optional tool: TAPE! I would hate to have to do this on a car with a nice paint job. I scratched the piss out of my door doing this. If I had good paint, I would tape the area around the door handle so I wouldn't scratch my paint. Step 1: Gather your parts, find your door and take some zanax: This one is gonna drive you crazy. Step 2: Roll up window, remove one plastic screw in the door panel, screw in the door handle and screw in the armrest and disconnect all plugs and tweeter (if you have one. .Using your fingers, start at the top of the door panel (part thats closest to the dash) and gently pry untill you hear the clip POP! Go around the perimeter of the door panel doing that. You end up with this: Attachment 486303 Yes Terrance, it's a tweeter. MB Quartz too https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif https://i240.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_8743.jpg Step 3: Pry away some of the plastic covering. Stuff's used to keep moisture out and whatnot. Step 4: Wonder how and the hell you're gonna disconnect that one rod and look puzzled: Attachment 486304 This is what you're gonna see when you look in there: Attachment 486305 Step 5: Using yoru 10 MM socket/extension, remove the bolt closest to the hinge and with your 10 mm wrench, remove the other 10 mm bolt. I could'nt find my 3/8 socket at the time, so I had to use a el cheapo thing ( can't think of it's name https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif) https://i240.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_8712.jpg What hapens when you use cheap stuff? It breaks. Boo to cheap stuff!! Attachment 486306 Yay for finding the right tools!! Attachment 486307 Attachment 486308 Using the wrench to get to the other bolt. Be careful not to decide to go Emo and cut your wrist doing this. Remember, its DOWN the road, not across the street https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif https://i240.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_8717.jpg Step 6: Have fun removing the door handle! There are 2 rods. One for the lock and one that actually opens the door. The one that opens the door is connected with a little plastic piece that holds the rod in place. You have to twist and turn to get it to come out of the little holder. Not too bad. The other rod.. Well, thats another story. Attachment 486309 Attachment 486310 Attachment 486311 Step 7: Remove plastic rod holder thing. I wish I knew the proper name. It's connected with 2 screws. Attachment 486312 It's also connected to the door lock with a little clip. Just pry the clip off with a screwdriver. It comes off like so. Attachment 486313 Step 8: Remove lock. Very simple. There is a little metal clip you pry up and pull out that holds the lock in place. If you want to use your original key, you HAVE to do this. Once the clip is removed, the lock pulls out. Attachment 486314 Attachment 486315 Step 9: Hard part: removing the door lock rod. Look closely at this picture. Directly above where my first finger is on my left hand is where the rod goes. You can see the end of the bushing there and thats the hard part: You have to PRY on each side of that little bushing that holds the metal piece in while at the same time pushing/pulling the metal part out. Sound confusing? It is. Hard as hell to do it too. I don't even remember how long it took but my fingers were killing me by the time I figured it out. I removed it from my new door handle first, then on the handle that was still connected to my car. Once you remove the one connected to yoru car, you can remove the handle completely and just stick the metal piece into the bushing and it clips in place. Attachment 486316 Step 10: reinstall the plastic rod holder thing and start putting your car back together! Simply reverse the steps to re-install it. Attachment 486317 Sexy! Attachment 486318 Step 11: Re-install yoru door panel. Don't be a n00b like me either.... Attachment 486319 Attachment 486320 Do you see a problem with this picture? Attachment 486321 How am I suppose to hook back up my door locks? Yep, I forgot to pull the plug up so I can reach it once the door panel is on. SO, I had to remove the door panel again https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif I tried using some needle nose pliers... But to no avail https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif https://i240.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_8746.jpg Step 12: All done! Step back and enjoy yoru now working properly/non broken door handle!! Attachment 486322 Attachment 486323 Fairly aggrivating. Glad I did it though https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif As usual, if you have anything to add to make it better, please let me know and I'll update https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif Modified by mac_24_seven at 6:52 AM 1/10/2008 Modified by mac_24_seven at 7:23 AM 1/10/2008 Modified by mac_24_seven at 7:27 AM 1/10/2008 Modified by mac_24_seven at 1:17 PM 1/10/2008 Modified by mac_24_seven at 1:17 PM 1/10/2008 |

Re: (kantstandlam)
Well it wasn't the easiest thing to do in the firstplace.
I would have liked to had a writeup when I did it https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif |
Re: (mac_24_seven)
Oh my...
Get your self some flat black spray paint and some newspaper, and then set aside ten minutes to give those awful white wipers a few even coats. Don't make the mistake I did and leave them white for two years...unless of course you...like them...like that...bleh. /falls a sleep. Ugly wipers. Ugly ugly wipers. Nice write up though. |
the rods, and clips u can remove when the handle is still attached to the door....thats what i usually do before removing the two 10mm bolts that way i dont have to hold it in my hand, or scratch the paint.
|
thank you...the only thing i would do if possible is post another diy link for removing panel for newbs that would need to do this...so they don't break their weatherstrippring and send it to me over ebay when i buy it from them in a year from now because they wrecked their car for being a newb and all

They'll be back http://is.rely.net/1-92-29998-l-1gbM...AmVuBW3hGg.gif Well, not JUST for you, but you know what I mean https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif |
thank you oh so very much. About a month and a half ago i broke my handle. It involved my car running, doors locked and me rickety-roawing my door handle. Now where did you find a door handle. All the people i talk to will only sell me the whole door lol

Re: (SkaiWu)
Ehh, I think it took me about an hour or so. I took my time.
I could do it in 20-30 mins now that I know what to do. |
doing this is a FREAKISHLY big ol' PITA. i just removed the ones i had on the DB8 i was stripping and it was a pain. i also removed the rear handles to use on my 2 door GSR (essentially, removing the locking mechanism) but just because it's a pain, i havne't done it and the parts have been sitting around forever.
terrance, if you want the correct color... i MAY have an extra one laying around. that way, you don't have to worry about painting it. PM me back if you're interested. jo |

right on... nice thread again.... |
Good info, thanks. Just one little tip. After having to remove my panel for a second time over and over to reconnect the locks, I started putting the door release handle through the wiring for the locks when i take the release trim off. That way it stays out of the way while you work and will be waiting for you when you reassembly the panel.
