1992 Honda EX Won't Start In Cold Weather
Not sure what the matter is, but when the weather turned cold my baby decided not to start. But sometimes will after about 30 minutes of trying.
I have replaced the battery, oil, and even the gas to mid-grade. To no avail took it to pepboys to see if my battery was no good, alternator or started was bad. All turned out to be great. Now I am told that I must take it in the Honda dealer to see what's the matter. Don't want to spend $$ http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif on her...so any suggestions as to what my be the problem. Please help. http://is.rely.net/1-92-65076-l-NREc...mLFY3DaZnA.gif |

I ran into this EXACT same IDENTICAL problem with my 1990 Accord Ex...I never did find out what was wrong, replaced SOO much stuff thinking it would help, but never did find out.
It started fine in warm/hot weather, but as soon as the cold hit, i would have that same problem. But if i let it run for awhile, turn it off, then it would start up fine again. I'd also like to know the answer to this. Some people told me it could be the main ignition module, but lets see what everyone else comes up with. |
Re: 1992 Honda EX Won't Start In Cold Weather (BreBre)
How old are your spark plugs & distributor cap & wires?
The cap & wires can develop microscopic cracks that trap moisture & short to ground. Look for that by trying to start the cold engine in complete darkness. Watch for arcing along the cap & wires. Sometimes just a dull blue glow around there. Once you manage to start it, the heat will dry that stuff out & you have trouble figuring out WHY it didn't start. |

It could be many things, there is a thread on this page that might help cleaning Iacv, fitv and tb.The iacv and fit both help with cold starts. You could also have a bad thermo sensor that is not telling the ecu it is cold outside.Try cleaning the two valves and go from there.

Re: 1992 Honda EX Won't Start In Cold Weather (BreBre)
After i bought my 91 civic the previous owner was nice enough to inform me that my car had problems starting in the cold (she was genuinely nice, she didn't have to warn me). Anyhow sure enough i had problems when winter came around.
My solution. Left it overnight at the Honda Stealership. They of course had the same problem. But the ECU was putting out a code. They told me that i need a new 'rotor' for the ignition (if i remember correctly). So i had to pay the stealership price but i haven't had the problem ever again in the past 6 years. Good luck |
