Polishing Compound for black paint

So this morning i go out to my car and find a nice scratch running the entire length of the hood, along with cat prints... Seems like one of the neighborhood cats decided to sleep on my hood, and then fell off, dragging his claw all the way down. Same thing happened to my friends car, which was also black, and we used some turtle wax rubbing compound followed by polishing compound and it took the scratch out. However, when i tried it on my car, it took the scratch out, but it also left swirls, since the paint is basically brand new. It doesnt look too bad from far away, just a little hazy, but up close it stands out, and its really bugging me.

Im just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a lighter cut polishing or finishing compound that will get rid of the swirls left by the rougher stuff.

Use swirl polish on a foam applicator and it will take out the swirls.

Going from Turtle Wax's red rubbing compound to their polishing compound is a huge step from a heavy abrasive to a light abrasive.

The fact that they don't use a diminishing abrasive in their compounds makes me turn away from using their products. (Diminishing abrasive: When the abrasive in the polish breaks down during buffing, turning into a smooth polish) Turtle Wax rubbing compound stays abrasive throughout the buffing.

I'd use Meguiars Scratch X and an applicator pad to apply. Work it in well by hand using a good amount of pressure, you may need to do this more than one time, but it will work well.

Awesome, thanks. Ill go pick some up today.

And yeah i realised after i put it on my car that the turtle wax stuff was way to rough of a cut, but theres really no indication of it on the containers, if you read it, thats the way it tells you to apply it. It worked great on my friends car, but it already had tons of swirls in the paint which is why i think we got "better" results.
