10x1.25 main bolt torque spec is 55nm / 6.5 kg-m / 47 ft-lb

make sure to put oil on bolt threads and washers

also after torquing each cap rotate engine ofter to check for binding

hope that helps

Different sizes of main bearings may be present in the same engine. To find the correct bearing size for each journal, use the provided chart to properly reference the code markings on block and crankshaft

Re: what's the torque specs for main bearing caps?? (fridaytech)

basically there are about four different size main bearings.... you have to figure out which journal needs which size. kind of a pain in the ass but thats how these engines are

yes they come in a set usually standard size but you can order individual bearings buy color chart. your repair manual may have the main bearing color chart in it..

Let me put it this way, the "sets" are usually like ACL, or whatever, those are middle of the road sizes, or green according to the factory chart.

You can only get individual bearings from Honda themselves and they cost quite a bit more once you get all 10 halves, but you can be assured of having consistent and known oil clearences.

ic... but if i just want a set from the parts store which size should i get?? i plastigauge the clearance and my results were .003 in. and the specs on the repair manual says .0010-.0014 on 1&5 journals, 2&4 .0010-.0017, and 3 is .0012-.0019... that's way big right?? so i need undersize bearings??? help me out! and the plastigauge came with 2 colors, i used the red... is that the one i should use???

The sets only comes in ONE size, green. If you want some other size, you have to buy honda bearings. Yes you need to tighten them down some or you'll have too much oil coming out.

You should be using green plastigage. The red one is thicker, and has a different scale.

According to this thread, the main cap is 33 ft/lbs

This is the info i followed and i had no binding and havent had any problems with spun bearings or anything. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

hey thanks, i'm going to plastigauge it and double check with that amount of torque and i'll give it a try...

EDIT: I tried it and it is between specs with the green plastigauge and no binding:-D

amthompson 05-13-2007 10:42 PM

So 33 ft/lbs worked?
