How do you know if u need new spark plugs and or wires?
I want to say I need to install new plugs ans wires but not sure. Car was idling funny, and when I gave it gas it was bogging and misfiring a little. Could it be the plugs and or wires? and help would be appreciated thanks https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

doesn't sound like they are the problem. you could always take out the plugs and see what shape they are in

If you have a ohmmeter I would check the resistance of the wires. They should be 25,000 ohms or less. If they are more, they need to be replaced. As for the plugs, remove them and inspect them.

but then the car would run normal for a little, then went back to it. there was no check engine light either.

ok maybe I described the problem wrong, wasnt idling too bad just a little low. But is there any way to tell when u need new plugs or wires?

did you even read my post? When plug wires get old, the resistance increases. If the resistance exceeds 25000 Ohms, you need to replace them. The plugs should be chaged ever 80-90K, or when the center electrode get too worn out and the gap gets too big.

Hmmm interesting... Do spark plug wires truely make a difference? I mean, I got some NGK blue ones just "to be cool" haha. I had some OBX ones along long time ago for my Eclipse but those ones sucked! They kept coming off the spark plugs.

you will only really notice a diffrence in high rpm or boosted applications. The higher the rpm, the more the coil needs to discharge, and the more the wires need to conduct. Think of it like a garden hose. When you pinch it off and it it go, it blasts out before settling down to normal flow. try to do that faster and faster and you dont have time to build up pressure, and it just trickels out. Its the same with your ignition system. The coil is trying to deliver ~60,000V about 135 times a second (8000 rpm). A better coil can store more charge and not lose voltage in higher rpm, which keeps the engine running strong all the way to redline.
