I heard that the tire's psi will go up an average of 4 psi once driven normally. So i just keep it around 4-5 psi below max. I am curious also.

I work for Discount tire we run 32 psi for all cars , unless the customer requests other wise. Just remember that your tire pressure changes depending on wether they are hot or not.So when we first mount a tire (it's cold) the air pressure is set @32 psi. After you have been driving on them a while the air heats up and expands, changing the air pressure to 3-5 psi more.

Whats going to happen if I run the wheels at the normal psi? Will that hurt tire performance? When I have the tires at 32 psi there too hard and when I go over bumps its pretty loud. If I put it at normal psi which is I think 29 in the front and 28 in the rear... it isnt as loud when I run over bumps. What should I do? Leave it at 32 psi? Do i need to gte coilovers?

Re: How much air is supposed to be in the tires? (Crazydave)
jsut put that freaking ammount on the side of the tire in.. shit. or in your case, 2 psi should be enuf..... http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emhammer.gif http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emhammer.gif http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emhammer.gif but honestly just put 5 psi under the maximum number in.

Re: How much air is supposed to be in the tires? (KAMiN)
You need to check the max pressure on the side of your tires. If you have 17's then you most likely also have low profile tires too. Many low profile tires require more presure then normal tires, especially to maintain the high speed rating of the tires.
For example, my BF Goodrich Scorcher T/A's can run on anything from about 40-50. But to keep the 150MPH rating of the tire the have to have 50 psi. If you want the the exact right amount of pressure, try this. Fill your tires to about 5 psi below max. pressure. Then take a piece of chalk and make 4 marks on each tire going from the sidewall to the tread. Take your car for a spin, and try to take a few hard turns. If the chalk has been rubbed off on the sidewalls, you need to add more air. If the chalk is still on the tread you need less air. Try this several times until the chalk only rubbs off the tread and non of the sidewall. Also do not run different tire pressures on the same axel. It's ok to have different amounts of pressure in the front then the rear, but not different amount from one side to the other. |

As for being "stiff" rolling on low 17s will be stiff. And because it's wide, it will generate a lot more tire noise. You can't avoid it. That's why I got 15s instead. If you have not gotten wheels, think about it. It's ok for some, but not for all. No you don't need coil overs. That's another post. Are you going to lower your car? Get 17X7 wheels if all possible. Most are 17X7.5. But 17X7 will give you more room to avoid rub. With 17s, I recommend H&R OE Sport at .75 drop. I would go no lower than Sport Springs at 1.75/1.5. There will be some minor rub at certain situation. Again, it depends on what you are willing to live with as a trade off. |
