How to do radiator flush??

Plan on doing this on Saturday and nothing came up on the search? Do you guys use the garden hose? Where can I dump the coolant? Thanks

if your just doing your radiator... look under your radiator and in the middle should be a plastic white plug (shouldn't have to take anything off to see it but you can if you want to). Just take your radiator cap off, twist the white plug off the bottem, pull up on your radiator "overflow" container and empty all that out, when the radiator is done draining you can either take the hose and make sure all the fluid is gone by running water through it or you can just plug up the radiator from the bottem and fill it back up, let it run until warm (fans click on twice) and check the level in the overflow tank. Just remember, fill the radiator to the top and fill the overflow tank to its Max point because you will lose some anti-freeze into your engine http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmile.gif.

pull the lower hose off drain all coolant. *i hate taking drain plugs out cause they piss me off* put hose back on after coolent is drained

pull upper hose off turn heater on stick a garden hose in upper part of radiator where hose was and start car let run until the water comes out clean.. let the car get warm so the thermostat opens or you can take the thermostat out..

put hose back on and fill with coolant and water

halo if your going to drain your radiator you might as well flush out your whole system, so that it will be completely clean and you wont have to worry about it

theres a drain plugg on the bottom of the radiator, flush you block as well, big nut on front, use tire iron http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmile.gif
great tip! I didnt know the tire iron would work.

I have a fluidyne and I know exactly where the drain bolt is.......once my coolant is all drained, do I stick the garden hose in the radiator itself and have it flush the old stuff out through the drain bolt on the bottom, while the car is running? I know when the system is flushed whn only clear water comes from the drain bolt....is that correct?

just pull the bottom hose off , and to flush put the bottom hose back on take the top hose off stick a hose in the radiator where top hose goes in, start car turn heater on high *so it flushes the heater core* , run until thermostat opens, and water comes out top hose clean...

one friend recomended that I use distilled water instead of regular water to prevent deposits when mixing the coolant. What would you guys say?

Re: (pdp falloutboy)

You could also by 50/50 pre-diluted.. that eliminates the hassle of mixing.

The easiest way, by the way, to flush is to take all your hoses off after you take your plug out, run water through the heater core, block, and radiator all separately until they run clear... Use a garden hose.

After that's all done, hook everything back up and fill with water. Drive your car until it does a complete heat cycle, with your heaters on high. Then bring it home and dump the water and fill it with coolant.

What I did was jack up the car, place drain bucket under radiator, remove plastic plug let drain, put plug back, remove top hose, run hose through radiator, start car with heater on max, ran water until clean, put hose back on, then filled with 50/50 coolant mix. Did I do this correctly?

I use this with no additives

Having eight different people say different ways to do this "simple" job is a little.. silly:thud:
