JDM D16A SOHC Non VTEC
The D16A6 in my 91 Civic SI is burning lots of oil and has low compression in one cylinder. I may rebuild but another option is a JDM D16A SOHC Non-VTEC which I found for $375. My question is what are the differences? Will the intake, exhaust, mounts, alternator, etc from my old motor bolt right up. From what I have found it seems the JDM motor has different cams and maybe higher compression worth a few horsepower but info is hard to find.

Re: JDM D16A SOHC Non VTEC (98r410)
From everything I've read, the motor you're looking at (The soch d16zc) is essentially the same as our usdm motor(d16a6). My friend has it in his car with just a header and turns a little quicker times in the 1/4 than me and others of us with A6's, but alot of it is the driver. They might, MIGHT have a slightly more agressive cam, I've heard both yes an no, but if it is, its not ny big difference and i don't know about the compression. I believe the motor may be made a little stronger, as in out of better materials, but its essesntially the same motor.

Re: JDM D16A SOHC Non VTEC
depending on how handy you are you could rebuild the motor for the same price.

Re: JDM D16A SOHC Non VTEC
really ^ if you do it half ass maybe
id go with the jdm motor op |
Re: JDM D16A SOHC Non VTEC
JDM is a lot easier, you want the 1.6L sohc non vtec zc it'll be a direct replacement for your d16a6 no mods needed. Just a slight bump in compression and a hair better cams.

How would it be half ass?
Just go with the "jDm y0!" engine OP. This post may help you... read through it... https://honda-tech.com/forums/hybrid-engine-swaps-18/d16a-motor-1466506/ |

You could always search kijiji or craigs or a local honda forum for a engine or fresh bottom end...

Re: JDM D16A SOHC Non VTEC
Let's see I can get complete rebuild kit from locate machine shop for 320 dollars. That includes all gaskets, new oil pump, new pistons, timing belt, all seals, new rings. If your handy you could hone it yourself. Only machine work needed is pistons pressed on and off rods. Maybe resurfacing and valve job. I could deffantly make it happen. Do what you feel more comfortable doing. Im just giving you another option.

Wow, that is cheap... Don't try that around me... Plus to press off the pistons is around $20 a rod around me... Also, the price you gave isn't factory stuff either though... I am curious... Why would you want to change the pistons if you weren't having it bored over? Seems like a complete waste (assuming you were keeping it stock compression and the likes)... People will do what they want I suppose...
