major coolant leak/overheating after skunk2 IM swap

I just swapped out my y8 IM for a skunk2 piece.
i am leaking coolant severly only after it runs and my guess right now is its coming from under the intake manifold.

when i did the swap i did reconnect both the coolant line to the iacv and the thicker rubber hose back to the block. Also it appears that the larger rubber hose is ballooning from pressure?

I've done IM swaps before but this boggles my mind

Stupid question, but you did change the gasket, right? And clean all traces of the old gasket off the head.

it's a hondata IM gasket which are resuable..

this is refering to the big coolant hose on the IM. sounds like the clamp isn't all the way on the nipple. or some other hose. and if the hose is ballooning you might want to replace it.

Re: (brick top)

mine does that too. im replacing the IM gasket to test. that may be your issue as well.

bump
since i thought about it all night and this morning, i realized that the hondata gaskets expand and compress, but also keep the impression of whatever was clamped against it. I realized that since this is a new intake manifold, different spots on the gasket are not compressed and some parts are not.

I'm gonna swap out the gasket and see if that helps

lol i had the exact same problem, took me three days to figure out....a small hose from your y8 manifold is not on the skunk2 intake manifold....let me guess your radiator has no antifreeze and you dont see any leak right?? you need to get a coolant pressure tester and pump your radiator...then you will see where the coolant is leaking from......mines was from a tiny hose, so i blocked it off witha screw and clamp....no problems since.....hope this help man

which hose?
my 96-98 d16y8 im had two hose openings- one goes to the IACV and one routes to the block.

are you talking about the air injection hole found in 99-00 civics? cuz if so I don't have that

i dont know where it came from, i dont remember.......but it didnt have a spot to but back on the skunk 2 manifold.........if there is a local autozone, you can rent the coolant pressure tester for $90 and the import radiator adapter.....they will give back all your money when you give the tools back...

how many hoses are connected to your IM?
all i can think of is
vacuum - brake booster, evap purge, pcv, and everything attached to the fpr
coolant- route to iacv and to block.

i'll check when i get home tonight......if you can, get that tester....it works great

any other thoughts while i wait:(

ok if you look at the thermosat, its the third hose from left to right......its a small hose, maybe 16/32, and it is coming from the engine block under the intake manifold......i hope this helps

BuiltforSin 10-10-2006 03:20 PM

anotrher problem that makes me stray away from Skunk2 IM. I wanted one for my Y8 too https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif

there are only two largers hoses that come out of my thermostat...
one goes to the intake manifold.

pmed

igo4bmx 10-11-2006 04:41 AM

got it fixed guys
the hondata IM gasket is reusable, but only for the same intake manifold.
if you use a different intake manifold, go ahead and buy a new gasket
