Manual transmission problem
 

Here is my problem. 03 civic manual. I have noise coming from transmission. this noise is like bearing noise, you can hear it while its in netural and goes away when you press the clucth. according to the below link, its an input shaft bearing problem. http://www.7thgencivic.com/for...46971
I took it to the honda dealer and they said they need to replace fork pivot and bearing and that will fix the problem. and estimated for $645 for parts and labor.

Is dealer right ? if you diagnose it properly using the link above, it seems like input shaft bearing. Please advice.

That's about right....the estimation is good price....where in NJ did you go to?

You said pivot and bearing...so I am assuming the correct bearing....

i am having the same thing with my 03 civic
a transmission place tolled me that it is a input shift
what do you say

mine is exact same thing, when clutch pressed in noise goes away... have not brought it in yet, most likey input shaft bearing.... my question is, how safe is it to drive for a while like this, mine is not super loud yet.

i have been driving my car for about 1 year like that and it is not getting louder

Do you think we work for Honda or something? It's not that easy, to introduce a recall.

now every one suggests its an input shaft bearing and i even knew that but when dealer dianosed it, they found something else. fork, pivot and release bearing. i know its not going to solve this problem. Can i take it to other dealer and have them check ito ut ? also will the other dealer know i have taken my car to the dealer before to diagnose it ? please advise. i want honda to fix it but they are showing different problem.

Yeah, take it to another dealer. It wont hurt to get a second opinion. When you say it goes away when you press the clutch, it could easily point to the release bearing and fork.

The second dealer wont know if you've taken it in somewhere else first...but if they find out, so what anyway?

had a bearing noise and it only happend when the clutch was let out, i pulled the tranny put a lot of high temp high pressure grease on the pivot fork and throw out bearing and vwalla no more noises

ok here is what your problem is. i have a 2002 civic lx and i had the same problem till last night. its most likely you rear main case bearing or in a long shot your front main case bearing. i went to Honda and the parts monkey messed up and gave me the wrong bearing. i recommend that you go buy the front and rear main case bearing and the oil seal for the front main case. and when you do make sure that you have the right part the rear main case bearing is substantially larger than the front so make sure on that. And they are both ball bearing type just so you know, the Honda dealer (Spreen Honda) said it was a needle type bearing. http://is.rely.net/1-92-29998-l-1gbM...AmVuBW3hGg.gif

It's been almost 2 years since anyone posted in this thread. Why did you bump it up?
