Back or front?

For the back remove the dust shield for the nut. Then remove said nut and remove hub/bearing. If they are rear disks you will need to remove the caliper and rotor.

For the front remove the knuckle from the car including removing the brakes. Then press out the hub, remove the snap ring and press out the bearing. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Check out this link https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=720159&page=1

I used this as refrence for my wife's 02 Altima. Sad part is I have to redo it, hub bearing I put in is humming now and it's brand new? but I know how to do it so no worries. Also, it helps that I have a 20 ton shop press.

Good luck!

I know it has been done before. I would suggest taking your knuckles off and walking them into a shop to do them. That is what I did one time, and the guy that pressed them is now one of my good friends crazy how things workout.

you really do need access to a press.

take the knuckle to a shop and have them press it in and out. most shops will have a press, not all are willing, but keep asking around, someones going to help you out for a modest fee.

the first link is great.

its also very detailed in the helms manual.

yes, you need a slide hammer, and then you press it back it on with the axl nut.

You don't need a press, and you don't need to remove the knuckle from the car.

All you need to pull the hub is a slide hammer. It's easy. Then you press it back on with an axle nut.

Re: How To Replace Front Wheel Bearing? (Mattamotor)

just remove the knuckle and bring it to a machine shop to get pressed out/in. And you might as well get a new lower balljoint put in while the knuckle is out.

Re: How To Replace Front Wheel Bearing? (ILcrxsi1)

Have any of you actually done the slide hammer approach? It works and I can get my hubs off in less than 2 min, but also the wheel bearings I am putting back on is the whole hub assembly not jsut the bearing......

roterx7 07-26-2006 12:37 PM

i dont even have a slide hammer, can someone show me what it looks like? i might have to go buy one or borrow one form somebody
thanks

Re: (VeilSide_Mas)

Don't really have a diagram but here it goes.

1. break axle nut loose
2. Remove wheel
3. romove brakes, including rotor
4. disconect lower ball joint from lower arm
5. remove axle from hub
6. disconnect tie rod from knucke
7. disconnect upper ball joint.

should be done then. if you're taking in in somewhere to have a new bearing pressed in you might as well have them press in a new balljoint too.

my order of things above may be a little fucked up, but that is everything that needs to be done.

err ok man thanks for the help but i am still a bit confused. do u know of an fsm or any manual that shows how to do it?

I don't know what manual you're using, but it can't be the CRX Factory Service Manual. The FSM explains - in detail - exactly how to disassemble/replace the front knuckles and hubs. Various diagrams are included. In my '88 manual it is section 12, pages 10 through 14. Front suspension torque specifications are on page 12-8. There are a few special Honda tools mentioned in the process.

Buy the real Honda FSM: http://www.helminc.com/helm/pr...61RV6

I just bought a shop press--- (pictured below)

The question is do I need any special attachments or additional things to help me get the hub/wheel bearing out?

I mean I'm obviously going to need something but how do the pros do it? Attachements that fit the bearings properly or improvise something else?

Sorry for the noob question here... just trying to learn as I go.

i'm not too concerned with getting everything apart... but once I've got my knuckle sitting on my bench, whats next--- is whats confusing a bit lol... got the press... gotta figure out how to use it right!

thanks in advance for the help and sorry for bumping an old thread...

nice press
id would just use a socket thats as clost to the size of the bearing as i can get and make sure when you set up to press you are not going to break any part of your knuckle(watch how its supported) i have never heard of tools for a press i think everyone uses what works and fits and is safe
again id use a socket prob a deep socket and deff use an impact socket not a cheap-o

Please check out the recall for the front wheel bearing, you may be able to get this done for free.

I'm having my 2005 CR-V's rear passenger bearing replaced (didn't attempt it myself but sounds like I could have) and just got a call that they will have to 'break' my ABS sensor to accomplish it. Is this true or am I being taken for a ride?
