Built in oil restrictor question...pics inside
 
Is this a built in oil restrictor? This is the oil port view of a Garrett GT35R.

I talked to both ATP and Phoenix-turbo, The guys at ATP said their is no built in restrictor on the GT35R and I needed to order one. Phoenx-turbo (where turbo was bought from) told me that it had one built in.

I'm not having any smoke/oil problems, but I don't want them to start either. The feed is -3AN, I'm seeing 35psi idle and 80-85psi at full throttle oil pressure

oil restrictors are much smaller than that. the ones ATP sells are like a pin hole.

you need an 0.030" restrictor.

I have the same thing on my gt30R

the hole is much spammer thanthe pic shows. it tapers down.

you still shoudl use a -3 oil pressure line since it helps keep the pressures down, but at the same time, rememebr ballbearing turbos can take more pressure sinc ethey use very little oil compaired to the normal bushed turbos.

also that fitting is a reversed flare 1/8" fitting thread so it's not a pipe thread. make sure you get the proper fitting for it. Stan @ http://www.fast-turbo.com can help you out.

i have read and used my slef with all my turbo set ups.. because hondas have a high oil presure i dont think it is...... look and see if that hole is the same size as the one on your oil feed line.... hope that helps

oscarmayer- are you using an inline restrictor on yours? I already have the fitting you talked about, I used the BB turbo install kit that Stan sells.

I'm just trying to get a definate answer on built in piece in the photo, what is it?

You are right when you say it seems to taper down from the top

itss a built in restrictor. like the guys above said, still use a -3 line. Ballbearing turbos require a lot less oil pressure then a sleeve style bearing turbo

Just like sycamore said, due to the high oil pressure Ive always ran one on my set-ups and never had a problem. Id have to take Phoenix-Turbos word for it. I think you will be fine.

I dont see how that hole on the CHRA restricts much compared to the inline restrictors, .060 shown below according to ATP

"Oil inlet restrictor for T series 1/8" NPT. Oil inlet restrictor for all T3, T3/T4, T04, T72 etc. Turbos with built-in oil restrictor (of .060 hole size). Installed at the oil inlet on turbo to reduce max oil pressure going into the turbo to prevent turbo seal damage due to excess pressure. Input is 1/8" NPT male and output is 1/8 NPT female."

Does anybody have a source for the GT turbo restrictor fitting in a -3AN, I really don't feel like switching everything to -4AN to match the ATP restrictor

what you can do is still buy the -4AN restrictor fitting and also get -4AN female to -3AN male adapter which ATP sells also.

I talked to Precision Turbo and several Garrett distributors.

The above picture is an inverted flare oil restrictor built into the Garrett models, Precision told me that their models do not come with the fitting installed.
