Radio Code for Honda Accord

Anyone know a spot that it doesn't cost me to find the code to unlock the radio on my son's Accord?

Thanks!

Some guys on this forum can get the code for you, if you give them the serial #. You have to get to the radio to get the serial #. I've heard you can get the radio to display the serial # by push and holding the #1 and #6 buttons (doesn't work for everyone). Good luck

Thanks guys! I read in the code post that being a NOOB means I won't get legit help until I pass the initiation period.

I'm glad that there are nice folks here too. I am going to go look for the code in all the secret hiding places, something I didn't even know about until I read that post.

Found the sticker. It had a 5 digit code number and a 6 digit serial number. I tried the 5 digit code, but it doesn't work. I am going to wait an hour and try again.

Re: Radio Code for Honda Accord (BigDanTFM)

All of you NOOB's who like me bought an Accord used and either didn't know to ask nor didn't think to ask about the radio code, here are are few things I learned.

FIRST:

When the book says wait AN HOUR WITH THE POWER ON, this means you have to leave the key in the ignition and the ignition on. If you put in the code wrong too many times, you have to wait an hour.

SECOND:

Look in all the nooks and crannies for the radio code sticker. Ours was under the armrest in the center console. Once I knew that I was looking for a five-digit number, seeing the sticker made it stand out.

THIRD:

In our 94 Accord, you can remove the ashtray and read the serial number with a flashlight and a dental mirror. We ended up not needing the serial number, but we got it anyway.

FOURTH:

Being a NOOB is not fatal. It will pass with time, Grasshopper!

Re: Radio Code for Honda Accord (BigDanTFM)

check the inside of your glove box for a white sticker with black numbers on it. it should be attached to the inside. it will have the radio code on it. you use the preset numbers to enter the code, if it says error instead of code on the radio youll have to disconnect the battery and start over, this will reset the radio. If you cant find this sticker it may also be in your owners manual. If all else fails youll have to take the radio out and bring it to the parts department of your local honda dealer. Theyll need the radio, proof of ownership( tittle or registration) and your drivers license. Theyll enter the radios serial number in their computer and give you the code.

Re: Radio Code for Honda Accord (BigDanTFM)

Please help! I have an EX Accord Sedan 1998. My radio says Err1 or Err2 something of that sort. Earlier it said Code. I looked for the code in all possible places, but did not find it. There is no ashtray in my car so I cannot look under it :-( nor is there any place for me to insert a mirror into to see the serial #. I am a student and cannto spend the $80 that Honda is asking for for the Serial #. Can someone please help?

Greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!

I'm just going to toss this out here, but you were able to locate a thread that's 5 years old (no one posting since then) but were unable to find the MANY MANY threads that say to either use the Honda Owner's Link or to call the Parts department at your Honda dealership and give the serial and proof of ownership?

:crook:

Re: Radio Code for Honda Accord

I have called a Honda dealership in the area and they would not give it to me without charging me $100. As for the Honda Owner's Link, it will not take it because I bought it used and so my information does not match that of the original owner.

So to answer your question - yes, I have read numerous thread suggesting those options but they have not worked (unless I want to throw away $100).

Again, charge is associated with the removal of the radio to get the serial #. The code itself is free and literally takes 5 seconds to look up. If they are giving you hassle, just call Honda of America and explain it to them. Honda of America can also provide you the radio code.

Personally, I would just call another dealer in the area or call back and ask to speak to the Service/Parts manager regarding it.

Re: Radio Code for Honda Accord

Call up Honda of America, update your information, and inform them you need the radio code = freebie, zip, zero, nadda.

Re: Radio Code for Honda Accord

I'll phrase it a little differently:

The dealer will give you the code for free, if you have the serial number off of the back of the radio. If they say that you have to pay, it's because they are charging you an hour+ of time to remove the radio. Since you've already removed the radio and have the serial number they should give you the code at no charge.

Call a different dealer or better yet, drive to the dealer and talk to the guy in person. Though updating your information with Honda of America is a great idea.

Re: Radio Code for Honda Accord

My problem is that I HAVE the code but it doesn't work. There's a sticker on the inside of my glove box. 2 numbers. First is a five digit code. The second is a longer one with numbers and letters.

The first is the radio code. The second is the serial # to the radio. I called my local dealership, gave them the serial # and she read me the code, which was exactly the same as the first number on the sticker.

But, it won't work. I've disconnected the battery a couple of times for 5 or 10 minutes, hooked it back up, turned the radio on to CODE on the display and typed my 5 digit code in and it says Err1 and so on as I try it. I don't get it.

Honda dealership said to bring it in if it didn't work. Are they going to charge me for this? (it's a dealership, so, I'd assume so)

Thanks.

Did you verify that the sticker is in fact correct and that the radio was not swapped out? My Pilot had it's OEM radio replaced under warranty after purchasing it.

I would suggest removing the radio and actually getting the serial instead of guessing.

Re: Radio Code for Honda Accord

How would I verify that is has or has not been swapped out? Its a 98 accord ex that I bought used from a Honda dealership.

There's no obvious or physical evidence that its ever been switched out.

I guess the dealer could do a VIN search and see if the radio was ever changed out?

Or, I'll start searching on how to remove the radio and check the serial # there.
