How long do Honda engines usually last?

Hey
Im new here and Im not sure if Im suppose to post on this forum, but how long do Honda engines usually last?

I have heard it can go stories where it can go until 325,000 miles or 250,000 miles. But with the normal wear and tear, w/o racing on it, how long do they last?

Im trying to find a car, mainly civics, accords, integras, and preludes, right now and most of them has around 125k miles and up.

FOREVER! One of my ex gf's DA integra had 350k miles on it....they just did the typical maintenance and that was it. they eventually donated the car and she got one of those sexy blue db8's! My GSR has 185k on it....and still runs like a champ. It all depends on how it was maintained over the years.

My 90' integra with stock LS has 198K no problems at all.

My crx had a B16 for 3yrs. I beat the crap out of it at the track,& auto-x, & was my dailey driver, befor I blew it due to over reving it. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif

I have found many clean cars with 125k+ miles on it. The only problem is that my dad doesn't approve of it becuase he says thats too many miles.

So depending on the maintenance of the engine, it can usually last for about 200k+ miles right?

yeah, 100k miles is about midlife for hondas. Count on 200k miles, it could very well be more though.

If you buy a civic from, say, an old man or woman, and it has 150k, it will most likely have another 100k in it. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

It all depends on the previous owner(s).

Re: How long do Honda engines usually last? (BeavisB16)

all i gotta say (from first hand experience) is that you DO NOT NEED to buy honda's 100k mile extended warranty. still kicking myself for doing that 6 years ago.

i got my 00 Si brand new and beat the shit out of it for 172k. that's when i yanked the motor in 04 to build it the first time. not rebuild, because it wasn't necessary. i was just bored. like i said, i beat the shit out of it, but I also maintained it. that's the only problem about a used car - not knowing all the history.

My '93 Accord (all stock) has over 220,000 miles, and counting up very fast every week https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

So on average, 100k miles is just the half way point of an honda engine?

kaoss_11 03-31-2006 06:38 PM

Its a give or take type of thing. I notice with honda motors there is no in between, they are either raped to shit or driven like normal people w/ regular maintenance. Find an old lady/man or foriegner that barely speaks english and your good.

Ruben19 03-31-2006 07:16 PM

I dont care about the miles.
as long as the motor sound good and dont burn oil is ok for me.
I can always rebuit the engine if something goes wrong.
rebuit the engine with oem parts in not that expensive.

my friend has an 88 integra with over 250k miles on the clock and it runs like a champ, never broken down or anything, and its been been beated on pretty much everyday. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

datssoled 03-31-2006 07:42 PM

so if the engine fails , would I have to replace parts of the engine? or do a engine swap?

kaoss_11 03-31-2006 07:55 PM

some rebuild the motor, most do a swap

My CX went 316k before it blew a head gasket and the rings were nearly gone, though I drove the hell out of it everyday trying to blow it up

Re: How long do Honda engines usually last? (THEUSED)

I once read a Honda Tuning Mag that had a 95 accord with over 700,000 mi on the clock. The car was owned by an insurance adjuster. The only maintenance was the usual oil change, head gasket and water pump. As long as it is maintained, a honda engine will last forever!

datssoled, what kind of car are you looking at? what motor is in it?

Like many of the guys have said. Find a older person/or a girl, and ask them if they want to sell there car.We picked up a 92 CX that was bone stock and in mint condition of a girl that was leaving for college. Ask if she would sell, and she told us she was thinking of selling it but didn't know what to ask. We offerd $1500 and she took it. Re: How long do Honda engines usually last? (91' LS-VTEC)

the difference is that you are talking about the motor and your dad is talking about the whole car. There is alot more to break on a car then just its engine.

Alot of parts wear out by 125,000 miles, again alot depending on previous owners. I could destroy a civic in 3,000 miles if i wanted. Wait.. I used to do it all the time! (Loaner cars at dealership)

datssoled 04-01-2006 01:45 PM

So what would I have to replace If i bought a second hand car? What should I check out ? What would you guys do?

Re: (datssoled)

when i look for a used car i always make sure the body is in the best shape possible. make sure there has not been in any crashes, try make sure you get a honda with minimal rust.. but with km wise ive seen civics with 650,000km on it. it was a 90 civic hatch. and the other one that ive seen was a 2000 civic with 580,000km on it believe it or not. but like everyone else said it depends on how you take care of it. try and find a car with service records. thats what i did so i knew everything that happened with my car and it was the original owner, which was even better

Re: (Rev Red)

honda engines last forever. however, at least in my area, bodies IMO are junk and rust way too fast. they are cheap, thin metal. They may save weight and result in better gas mileage, but they rust way to fast. In my area, most Hondas are rusted out (at least in the quarter panels) by 100k. I wish Honda would have done what Porsche did and use galvanized steel.
