Painting Valve Cover
I have some questions, i want to plain my valve cover but i dont really know anything about the process. I know you have 2 sand the original pain off and stuff but i dont know what type of paint to use......or is painting them a bad idea??

Re: Painting Valve Cover (uses0ap)
i don't know what paint to use but i would get aircraft paint stripper from the local auto store instead of sanding it.

Re: Painting Valve Cover (xDantex)
Yeah get that aircraft paint remover along with some plastic scrapers..And there is a paint called VHT wrinkle paint..It looks almost the same as the stock style painted covers..I re-did mine in black and it looks great..No I dont have pics,,But there are alot on here floating around..
I bought the aircraft paint remover from walmart and the paint from jegs.com |
Duplicolor Hi-Heat paint always works for me.
|
aircraft remover is amazing, u spray it on and wait like 10 minutes, and you can literally wipe the paint off with a cloth. and use thermal paint for the cover, itll last longer

Re: Painting Valve Cover (Tegrasaur)
I used Aircraft Remover for my valve cover. I used a wire brush to get the excess original paint off after the Aircraft Remover. Then i used high temp primer and spray paint from Schucks (can't remember brand).
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...a/IMG_1387.jpg the color looked great to me, and i never heard anything negative about. Just take your time painting it, and don't do it anywhere cold. In retrospect i wished i had done red wrinkle paint, but, live and learn. |

Re: Painting Valve Cover (00IntegrAllmotoR)
As everyone else is saying use aircraft stripper to remove the old paint. Then any type of high temp paint will work fine

Re: Painting Valve Cover (uses0ap)
For your own time and effort to remove the paint, paint it (various layers, etc) check with a local powdercoating place. Up here in Canada our local powdercoater did an AMAZING job on a DOHC valve cover for $50

Forgot to mention that that price also included stripping of the old paint.

-Rik</TD></TR></TABLE> Is that company in victoria or vancouver? Im intrested in having that done, do they provide the paint as well?? Please let me know which shop your talking about. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif |
The company is called Island Powdercoating. They are located in Langford ( a subdivision of Victoria, B.C. Vancouver Island ).
Turnaround time was about 3 days. They supplied EVERYTHING and have way too many colour choices to list. -Rik |
Re: (Rikter)
Quick tip, coat areas with vasoline if you dont want the paint sticking to it. Such as the nipple for the valve cover vent. Also, take a drum sander attachment for your dremel and hit the lettering on the valve cover with it after you are finished painting. Gives it a mice shinny contrast with the paint.

Re: (Rikter)
I got mine powdercoated. The paint was chipping, so I got a hookup for powdercoating mine. It was $20 plus an old turbo timer and shipping. If anyone is interested, I can send you his way. His normal rate is $50 plus the shipping back and forth.
