H22A Pilot Bearing
Hi guys!
I'd appreciate if someone that's familiar with the H22A4 motor's clutch/flywheel could tell me if it requires a pilot bearing. I've just received a "Competition Clutch" kit with a CC Ultra Lightweight Flywheel. The kit contained the pressure plate, clutch plate, release bearing and alignment tool but no pilot bearing. Their kits are supposed to contain a pilot bearing when applicable. I checked the Prelude helms manual but there doesn't seem to be any mention of a pilot bearing. There's also no sign of a pilot bearing in any of the diagrams. I asked a Honda mechanic and he wasn't sure but he thought it should require one. I also searched on the forum but couldn't find any clear answer. Thanks in advance. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif |

SteveoBA8:
Apparently some lightweight flywheels like the Fidanza require a pilot bearing because the hole in the center of the FW is a different diameter than a stock FW. Did you also replace your flywheel with a Competition Clutch ultra lightweight steel flywheel? If that's the case... I'll know for sure that I'll be OK. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif |
Re: (Nakajima)
I kept the stocker. When i helped a friend with his SH( he bought a fidanza flywheel and exedy oem clutch) The kit came with a pilot bearing.

Re: (SteveoBA8)
Oh, ok.
You wouldn't maybe happen to know the diameter of the hole in the center of the stock flywheel? https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif Or maybe know of someone that's used a Competition Clutch flywheel on an H22? |
Re: (Nakajima)
Sorry i dont, this was during the summer, i think the pilot bearing was already in the fidanza flywheel so he used that one and not the one that came with the exedy oem clutch kit since it was ment for the oem flywheel. You dont wana be bolting the tranny up and have the input shaft be too big for the pilot do you? Is this in a 4th gen? I know how much of a bitch they are to stab.

I am using a CC steel flywheel and have not had a problem with it in the year that it has been in. It did not require a pilot bearing, in fact teh fidanza is the only one that I have even heard of needing a pilot bearing. My stock one sure didnt.

Re: (SteveoBA8)
Yes, It's a 95 4th gen with a 97 H22A4 swap. Still running the F22 tranny.
I don't know what the shaft diameter is. I just don't want any nasty surprises when I take the gearbox off. |
