best tire/rim size combo for rsx type s

I'm pickin up my "new to me" 2k2 rsx type s this week and it needs some new tires on the stock wheels. I figured now would be a good time to either upgrade the wheels and tires, or get some nice tires for it.

Option 1: New wheel and tire combo...what would be the best size to go with.

Option 2: Just new tires and save the loot for kpro https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif What kind of tires are relatively inexpensive, but good...azenis?

Just get better tires and save for the K-Pro. I'd suggest Bridgstone Potenza S-03's.

I'd get advan neovas over SO3s

215/40/18 is a perfect match for 18's......keeps the speedometer accurate while still putting down a wider tire than stock

P205/55R-16

search for tires, and that is the stock size.

ebp_dc2 10-07-2005 04:37 PM

225/50/16

Whatever size of rim you decide to go with, find a size that is as close as possible to stock so that you won't encounter speedometer errors.

OR, get a size with smaller circumference to effectively make the gearing shorter and increase acceleration. Pretty much only beneficial on the track; overall gas mileage will be a little worse.

Whether you get rims that are 7 or 8 inches wide, 225's are probably as wide as you can go without rubbing (provided the offset is close to stock, too).

Personally, regarding 16" vs. 17" vs. 18", I'd say to get whatever will barely fit over the brakes. Start going bigger, and they'll start getting heavier. Light = good.

ebp_dc2 10-09-2005 10:22 AM

very nice, finally a solid answer!....Does anyone know what the smallest size is that clears the calipers?

BarracksSi 10-09-2005 05:26 PM

16's should be right -- they clear the Type-S brakes that I have on my EP. I haven't tried 15's though; if you know someone who's got 5-lug 15" wheels with a 5x114.3 bolt pattern, bring 'em a six-pack and do a test fitting.

BarracksSi 10-09-2005 05:32 PM

Oh yeah -- as far as tire size goes, I'd go with either 225/50 or 225/45. They're both about as far off from stock, and neither are very far off. The slightly shorter sidewall of the 225/45 might help with turn-in response.

I'd also just keep the stock RSX-S wheels; they're fairly light. If you get new rims, go as light as you can while still getting a style that looks good to you.

FYI.... JDM SSR TYPE-C 15x7 +38 fits over the TYPE-S calipers! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif Why I sold them, I really don't know! http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif

Remember... Big wheels equals more spinning mass. Don't to go big to be sexy. Think of spinning and stopping a 1 gallon filled water buck that is close to your body, and then doing the same thing with your arm outstretched. I like 17s myself though. Just make sure they are big enough for those huge ass Brembos you are going to get in the future! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

Oh yeah, I completely forgot. Heck, I don't even remember asking what size they were -- I think I just assumed they were 16's.

Maybe I should've bought 'em.. lol

Can anyone confirm that a tire larger than 225, such as 235 or 245 will or will not fit on an RSX w/ a rim size of 17X8?

If 225 is the biggest, will 225/40/17 be the best choice?

Nov!ce 10-13-2005 04:39 PM

Re: (Nov!ce)

I just searched and a 225/45/17 or 245/4017 fits closest to the stock tire. I'm guessing that 245s will be too big, so is there anyone that has experienced the ride of 225/4517 w/ 17X8 rims?

235.40 or 45/17 is kinda close, but not as close as the others.

BarracksSi 10-13-2005 07:59 PM

225's are probably the biggest that you'll be able to fit, provided that any new rims have an offset similar to stock. I haven't heard of anyone else running wider tires without modification.
