car starts then shuts off 5-10 minutes later??? what is the problem???
 

The car will start and idle smoothly for 5-10 minutes before it shuts off. After about 5-10 minutes the car can be started again and it will run for another 5-10 minutes or so before it shuts off again. During the 5-10 minutes the car is running, it drives fine and seems to have no other problems (other than the brakes will need to be replaced and possibly the tires). In an attempt to solve the electrical problem, the car has new: distributor, fuel pump, fuel filter, and ignition switch.


DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE?????

What happens when the car dies? Describe exactly what happens. When you try to start it again right after it does (before 5-10 minutes), what happens? Does it crank? Fuel? Spark?

sounds like the alternator or battery crapping out

When you replaced the distributor, did you get a new coil as well? Check to see what the problem is. Is it fuel or is it spark?

Couldn't be the battery because the car starts fine he said. But maybe the alternator.

Definetly an odd situation.

I had that same problem with a hatch. Would drive and then just suddenly turn off. It's probably your alternator. Thats what it was for me, once replaced ran great.
