1988 Prelude 2.0 Si 14400-PK2-004 (DOHC ZC)

i think i tryed that one but my boy just went down to see if he can get one.

CBURKE 07-06-2005 01:11 PM

Ok got the belt on and there is a little slop, is this normal?

Re: (CBURKE)

There shouldn't be any slop. If there is it will not stay timed properly. Did you tension the belt according to the service manual?

Steps to tension belt:

1. Set crank pulley so #1 piston is at TDC

2. Loosen timing belt tensioner

3. Turn crank pulley so the cam gears move 3 teeth in the counterclockwise direction

4. Tighten the tensioner

I have been reading alot about the zc and from what i have been reading it is like that beacuse we have to use the lude timing belt and not a zc. The belt even seems to be bigger.

I am using the Prelude belt on my DOHC ZC and it fits fine, no slop. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Re: (Sikocivic)

It will seem sloppy until you turn the crank per the manual.

CBURKE 07-06-2005 02:46 PM

I don't really understand this (3. Turn cank pulley so the cam gears move 3 teeth in the counterclockwise direction)

depends on what ZC
the 1st gen is basically the D16A1 unit with the smaller cam gears

the 2nd gen ZC (88-91) is the prelude unit with bigger cam gears

check the belt route
did you miss any pulleys?

not true - the 2nd gen ZC is not a Prelude unit - it is a unique engine - all DOHC ZCs have same diameter cam gears as B-series or H-series - 34 teeth (timing marks are different, but they are the same size) - the 88 Prelude 2.0 Si timing belt and the DOHC ZC timing belt are identical and have the same part number 14400-PK2-004 - the belt has 124 teeth with 9.5mm pitch

Ok i think i got it. I looked over the book and i think i see what's up. But, the belt is almost or well it tuches the motor mount. The belt tenchiner bolt is at the bottom so it can't get any tighter. The belt say's 184 on the top. Maybe it's the wrong belt. Lets go for belt #5!!! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif

no, the DOHC ZC timing gears are smaller than the Integra - DOHC ZC cam gears have 34 teeth and crank gear has 17 teeth - the Integra cam gears have 40 teeth and the crank gear has 20 teeth - Integra belt is too long
