Accord Hesitates while accelerating - Help!

I have a 1993 Honda Accord EX wagon 5-speed with 150K miles. The car has historically run great! Suddenly, while driving at 75mph, the engine quit. After being towed to the dealer, they replaced the "igniter." After this, I noticed substantial (800-1000 rpm) fluxuations on the tach. At first, these did not seem to affect engine performance. Now I find that the car hesitates while accellerating and buck more violently under load (accelerating at high speed going up hill.) Bucking seems to start when the engine is above 3500 rpm and accelerating. While using cruse control at 3500 rpm/75mph there is some tach fluxuation and some hesitation/bucking. At speeds below 60mph, there is no bucking, unless the car is accellerating. That's why I think the issue is engine speed, not car speed.

In addition to the igniter, the dealer has replaced the coil (and, I think, the coil wire.) On the most recent visit to the shop, the dealer suggested replacing the plug wires and the gaskets where the plugs seat (they noticed some oil leaking out beneath the plugs. Before I sink yet another $300 into this car, I want to ask for some help!

Does anyone have an idea as to what is causing this problem? Any suggestions about what to try next? Is there a way to confirm the problem without spending big bucks, so I can decide how much its worth investing in this car?

Thank you for any help you can provide.
Rick

Whatever it is it sounds like an ignition problem. Start with the little shit (Plugs, wires, etc.) and check everything in the ignition system.

Are you throwing a check engine light? If you are find out what code it is, and diagnose it from there. If not check the condition of the Spark plug wires. I had a car do that, replaced a bunch of stuff to find out there was a nick in one of the spark plug wires which was causing it to act crazy.

No, there is no check engine light coming on. Thanks for the hints - sounds like it's worth the $ to start with the plug wires.

OK, now I have replaced: Igniter, Coil, Plugs, Plug Wires, Fuel Filter, and have put injector cleaner into the fuel. I still have the same hesitation while accelerating above 3500 rpm. Any more suggestions?!

I would look at the fuel delivery system next. Possibly your pump or relay https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif
