Whats the smallest possible compresser that can probably be used to paint a car? Anyone have any experience? I have some friends that have compressors, but i dont know if theyre big enough to use with a HVLP gun. For those that may chime in, what was the CFM (cubic feet per minute) rating of your compressor?

Any help is great

I did my old MK2 GTI on a 20.2 gallon 3hp compressor. It was 25 seconds of spraying, 25 seconds of patience on it to build pressure again, and so on. I used the slowest reducers I could for base coat to dry slower and more time for me to work with. I cannot remember the exact CFM ratings, it was tough, but made it work. I still use it on small items, I beleive its a 4000 model old Rand Compressor. Hope that helps,

Tyler

Check your tool, it should tell you what you need to know to run it correctly. most shop air tools are 90 psi, not sure how big of a take though.

I'm looking to buy a compressor soon too. Mostly for jobs around the house/ working on the car/ but i'd like to build one with at least decent specs for painting too.

So more information on tihs would be awesome before I go make my purchase.

Thanks guys!
