Default Price range to powdercoat wheels?

I am getting a set of wheels powdercoated a candy color, so it has to be done in silver/chrome base, and then the candy powder on top. From what you all have paid to get a set of 15" aftermarket wheels done, what is a good range to look for. Around $300 seem fair? or can this be done a lot cheaper if I look around harder?

Just curious, I will be calling places all week for quotes but would rather know the avg pricing around the states to get a better idea of being able to haggle a better price.

when I lived down in southern california, I went to see how much a local place would powdercoat my wheels, they were 18's. And it seemed like the guy didn't want to help me, because he just kept acting and talking a certian way that was a bad adititude kind of thing, anyways, he was asking something like 75 bucks and hour to sandplast, then like 200 for the powder. it was pretty bad, needless to say I didn't go there. I ended up calling this other place in which they quoted 100 dollar per wheel to paint it. I just ended up selling the damn wheels.

Buy yourself one of these. You will use it way more than you think, and It pays for itself. I got mine for $20 though haha I like working at sears.

The only issue with that is the fact that the powder gets everywhere. So you need almost like a dedicated room, or a well ventilated alcove or something. And to top it off ( I don't know anything about powdercoating, so bare with me) Don't you have to powder coat on bare metal? So if you do then you would need to strip every last inch of what you're coating right? Sand blasting or metal stripper. Sounds easier if you take it somewhere. Or maybe, if you took it somewhere to get it stripped, then did it yourself at home. I'm just rambling.

Well I know Summit sells a paintgun just like that, however you still need to bake it, finding an oven to fit wheels in would be a task. I could do it myself, if I had the resources. The know-how I already have. Sadly no oven that large to take care of the job

Yeah this is true but you save yourself money in the long run.

I just got four 15" stripped and powder coated for $230. I got mine painted silver and the powdercoater told me it was a two step coating (base/clear) because metallic colors require a clear coat or they will oxidize.

The good thing about the powder coating is that the finish is almost indestructible, as long as harsh solvents aren't used to clean them, and the coating covers the entire surface of the wheel which includes the backside and width of the wheel that is covered by the tire.

Candy colors might be a tri-coat (base, candy, clear) so $300 doesn't sound entirely too bad as long as they do an awesome job.

I paid $300 to have a set of 16's chemically stripped and powdercoated (locally).

I've been doing powder coating for about 5 yrs I charge $100 for chem strip, powder and lifetime warranty against flaking or chipping. Obviously curb rash will putting a hurting on this stuff but its tough nonetheless.

I was subscribed to this thread because I am a licensed professional trained and certified. Typically I buy rims to refurbish and resell. My labor and materials for a set is around $150. S hobby set is a great opportunity to play but the results are damming compared to professional results. Prepping is key, sandblasting doesn't cut it nor is it efficient. I chemically dip in hot vat bath to remove all powder or paint in about 40 seconds. At this point it's perfect conditions for polish or powder coat with the proper neutralizing agents. Very fun but much much more expensive than a cheap hobby kit but I must say that that's what made me dump $55k into getting setup the professional ways!
