Default Paintless dent removal

A few questions I'm sure you guys can help.

1. Anyone of had it done and was happy? Anyone no happy with their results? Please tell us why? What wasn't "perfect." My car is 6 years old. There are two door dings that "bother" me (only from certain angle). Was it worth it to you when you had it done?

2. Everyone seems to do this. Every body shop. Even service ships. And the dealership. Any advise in selecting one? Or are they sort of simple that pretty much any shop can do a good job (unless they really suck.

3. Just go to my dealership, when in doubt? Yes, they may charge more, but I'm more concern about it looking right.

TIA

PDR can take some dings or more out , but I've seen some bad PDR done by other and then I had to fix it by doing some lil body work and paint.
if they know what they are doing its should be 99% fixed also some spots are hard to PDR on like on the crease of the panel and sometimes drilling a small hole on side panel to put the tool to work , I do this at my body shop. Some dings can be pulled by a glue puller tool also
if you have more questions pm ,
but sometimes some big /deep dents can't be PDR , then it's bodywork time

for my job (Insurance auto claims) PDR is a pretty great tool to keep OEM paint finish and fit with parts, alot of claims for cars more then 2 years old end up using aftermarket parts suppliers(often chinese parts or used parts usually of different year and or color) and there is almost always fitment issues or panel gaps greater then oem but thats a whole other subject lol

we work with PDR vendors all the time and its hands down the best way to repair a dent when possible since you dont loose that oem finish or parts or paint fade/blending issues that you have to deal with when replacing body panels. You would be surprised at the size and kinds of dents that can be fixed by the process but its also limited by the fact that if you have any broken clearcoat/paint on the panel getting worked on or if the metal is bent to a degree that the process will make the repaired dent metal area weaker and more susceptible to being re-dented or the PDR process will cause a failure to the paint and/or clearcoat then its just not doable

Not to take away from the art and skill involved in doing professional level body panel repairs but I dont like the idea of using sand/clay puddy's to fill in dents and then having to refinish the whole panel and or surrounding panels to get a good finished look but it all depends on budget and parts availability and of course level of damage. It also comes down to budget as well because PDR can be pretty expensive depending on size of dents, amount and complexity of panels it can go from a $10 dent fix to $120 for large ones but usually PDR work takes only a few hours to 2 days depending on severity (minor door dings to hail damage)

anyways thats my 2 cents on it

If done properly, customers aren't rushing to get there cars back, any dent can be removed whether its using the glue method or by the ball/magnet method.

I've been watching some youtube videos, so I'm not sure if this is for my case.

I would post pics, but it won't come out.

Basically, what I'm looking at is one ding that is visible from an angle off of light reflection.

I probably won't bother 9 out of 10 people, but is seems like I keep looking at it when I approach my car.

I know you guys are also car guys, so you know what I mean, and is probably like me.

(I don't know the cost), but just not sure I want to spend the few hundred dollars for the pros to do it (or risk it being worst by any chance).

We have a guy come and do some PDR work for us quite often. He's very, very good. He does work for most of the body shops and all of the dealerships in the area. When a good PDR guy is done you shouldn't see anything. The key is just finding a good one. It's a skill that takes time to perfect. From the sounds of things PDR is exactly the route you should be going though.

Exactly. The dealer said they can do it. I just don't know his skill level.... Or should I "trust" that the dealer already have a guy that's skillful..

I've never seen a dealer than had their own in house PDR guy, normally what happens is they call whoever they use for a PDR guy, he comes in, does the work and then the dealership marks it up a little. I'd say it's a pretty safe bet whoever they have is good.

Correct. That Honda dealer is part of a group of 6-7 brand dealership in the city. So I'm sure he is not a "Honda" service dept guy. Rather works for/with the dealership group. Make sense now.

I'll provide an update. So since then, I got rear ended by a driver that does not want to stop. My Accord is in the body shop.

I asked about those two dings. One of them I actually had trouble finding. And think maybe I'll pay out of pocket. Cost was $975 estimate. More than the damage to my car. Oh well....not fixing it.

I've seen some sizable dents taken out! There are certain spots they can't reach, such as in the rolled edges. But for the most part - and I am pretty particular and thorough - they have come to my home or my work and using the "spoon" method they have removed basic parking lot dents without a trace. I believe a mediocre PDR is better than even a good fill, sand and paint because they don;t have to blend older paint with new.
