painting my milano red em1 complete NOOB
well i paint small stuff like motorcycles and random **** black and basic colors
my red em1 in my sig has a scratch on the bumper and a ding on the door which id like to fix.
I dont want to do a half *** job and want it to look good, ill probaly sand down the whole car if the paint doesnt match.
its milano red which i beileve is a tricoat color which confuses me.
what paints do i have to buy and whats the best way of painting it.
remember im a noob, all ive painted is primer, base and clear never any tints or sealants that ive been hearing.
What paint brand is good. I know the paint code is R-81
Thanks for any help guys.

Re: painting my milano red em1 complete NOOB
Any color that has the word "Tri-coat" has three different coats of paint applied at the factory. The first is a basecoat of color. Next a second coat of transparent color, called the midcoat is applied and finally, a coat of clearcoat. The midcoat color is applied very thin and adds additional depth to the paint. To successfully match a tri-coat, try to practice on a scrap piece of metal or plastic.

Re: painting my milano red em1 complete NOOB
matching tri-stage paint is easy, first thing you need todo is a let-down panel. google it. that will tell you how many coats of mid-coat is required to match the car. especially useful since it will be done with your spray technique and not a color chip. also the chance of butt-matching a tri-stage is next to none so your going to have to blend into the quarter or fender (or both, based on your experience) depending where the dent is. again, do a let-down panel first. takes all the guess work out, and each cars' color is very slightly different than the next so someone telling you one way worked with their car, good chance is it wont work on yours.
cheers.
