Do you guys just use whatever kinds of paint on the valve covers? Will the paint mess up due to the high heat of the motor?

Use VHT paint. They have many selections on high temp colors

you don't have to use high heat paint or high heat primer....i've done it with vht wrinkle right onto bare metal...also used base coat / clear coat on bare metal..i just made sure to properly sand everything and clean it well....any type of paint will hold onto the valve cover just fine....here are a couple i did

i have a question.
when you paint your Valve Cover would u have to cover the engine, so no dirt gets it,
and would i have to replace the gasket?

it all depends on you, if you want to take the extra step and cover it up and replace the gasket..the extra step isnt going to kill you..i personally replaced the gasket and i covered the motor..but its not a must..

i just mock up an extra valvecover while i paint the other valvecover.
You can reuse the gasket atleast once, but after that replace it for sure.

Metalcast is supposed to be used over bare metal, or their special primer (that I believe is aluminum colored). Its a partially transparent paint, which is why it came out different for you, your primer is showing through.

First one I bothered to paint. Had a VTEC cover laying around, stripped it, and rattle canned it and cleared all in one sitting. Isn't perfect, but let me know what ya think.

Sorry about the bad Cell phone picture, will get a proper one tomorrow.

^^ looks pretty good from that pic, but don't rush paint...patience makes a big difference in how your stuff comes out...i know when i used to paint, i was so excited to see how it was gonna look that i would rush to get it done...usually either dripping or messing it up somehow in the process...now that i take the proper amount of time, everything is coming out a lot nicer

Well by "one sitting" I mean one day, lol. I let the etching primer sit for a good long time before I started spraying the white. Let that sit for about 4 hours till I masked around the letters and sanded them down, then I went over it with a tack cloth, then sprayed about one good layer of clear, and could use a bit more, haha.

Right now my main project is a fully shaved B18B/B20 cover. Filled the grooves with QuikSteel, used some Loctite liquid metal in some areas instead of normal filler, since it's good up to 250 degrees.

But that brings up another question, would a thin layer of Bondo hold up to the temps these go through?

Dont paint the v/c on the car Take it off and paint it away from the car easiest way and when u take off the v/c cover the head with a clean rag
