My Rustoleum paint job Eg Sedan
Well my car wasn't the best looking Sedan around. So I started looking for paint jobs and I couldn't afford it. So I browsed around the internet for a cheaper solution and I eventually found out about the "$50 paint job" so I read up about it and thought I should try it. So I gathered up about 10 cans of primer and 10 cans of Rustoleum Sunrise red, Sandpaper, acetone, Meguiars ultimate compound, a buffer, masking tape and a couple other small items.
I started by sanding the car down with 120, 220, 400, and 800 grit sandpaper
Then I sprayed the car with primer. But I did this in sections because the fenders, bumpers, and hood were off the car.
This is the only picture I could get of it in the primer stage. After this was of course the paint.
After paint was done I clear coated it with
"Rustoleum crystal clear" and wet sanded with 1500 grit sandpaper. Then finished it off with my Meguiars compound. This is the final result.
Thanks for looking if you want to try it and have some questions dont be afraid to ask. Follow me on Instagram if you have one @_jdeleon

Doesn't appear to be that glossy, is it? I know my straight rustoleum job was pretty glossy and still turns out decent if it is washed. It does attract dirt like a mad man though.
Rustoleum jobs come out good if you spray them. They don't last as long though, that is a fact.

plasti dip is pretty neat, but most people I know charge $350-$400 for a dip on an average sized car. depending on several factors, you could very well spray your car for that. Base and clear. Harbor freight sells super cheap guns that honestly work VERY well. Just find an air compressor and go to town!

i'd also recommend the compressor to be at least 60 gal tank. I've sprayed with smaller before and it's an absolute pain losing pressure and having to stop and wait for the tank to build pressure back up. I've never had a lot of money to do the things I like to do so I can tell you all about the pros and cons to doing **** cheaply haha. I finally have a nice set up now with an 80 gal 5 hp ingersol compressor, and that ol girl does GREAT. good luck with the car dude!

I sprayed mine with a small 10 gal tank. It worked for me. The thing you want to look for is CFM on the compressor and gun. You want the compressor motor to be able to compressor more air than your gun will use during it's duty cycle. That's what I did and it worked out perfect. No need to go huge on a tank, just my opinion.
Congrats on it turning out good though. If I did it all again I would probably just do more prep. And picked a different color. But that's all. I will be going for a better paint job when I do some body work.
Lastly, HF spray guns are awesome. The walmart ones work too. HVLP is where it is at for the DIY sprayer. Gravity fed too. Less to go wrong, easier for a novice.

Please send us some photos at the end of the summer. It would be cool to see how long it actually holds up. Friend of mine did his and it faded in one summer so I thought maybe he did something wrong. You can wax it back but it never lasts. Better than nothing though.
