Default My Honda Rear Quarter Panel Fix*Let Me Know What You Think*

I was tired of seeing these damn rust after so many years, so I decided to take things into my own hands..These are Before and After pics. This is just a temporary solution just to make my quarter panels a lil pretty...And only wasted about $30 bucks in materials..Let me know what you guys think...still needs a coat of etching primer to make things much smoother

Good luck with preserving that body line! They can definitely be a pain. What did you do for the "rim" on the inside?

Honestly I left the inside how It is for now. Once I'm done with everything, I'll focus on it and other smaller things.I'm just trying to get the outside to look decent for now.and hey maybei you Can help me. I kinda mest up by sanding down the car with 40-80 grit not to bare metal but enough to leave scratches. I than followed with 400 and 800 grit. I still see a lot of scratches but the panels and doors feel smooth. Will T. he final paint show the scratches?

You need to sand up (I'd go 120 and then 180, but it depends on what your primer says to use.)

Alternatively, you can spray poly primer like featherfill and block the body back into shape. This will fill those sanding scratches.

Failure to do one of these steps will DEFINITELY result in you seeing sanding scratches in the final work. I've made this mistake before. Even a good normal urethane primer-surfacer will have a tough time handling 40-80 grit scratches.

My suggestion: the inner lip needs to go. Anything in that area that still has rust, even if it is mostly or entirely covered, needs to get ground out or it will continue to rust.

fixing rust by covering it with bodyfiller or fibertech/fiberglass/duraglass is a bandaid repair.

it will look better and look gone for a while but it will come back. rust repair sucks like that when you can't get to all the rusted area (outer wheel house, quarter panel)

POR-15!!!!!!!!!!! best to stop rust. You started out with the right ideas to fill it all in but the order and qaulity is a little shabby. Dig/grind all that filler you put in out grind the surface rust off POR-15 the entire inside area where its rusting this will stall further rust... then go back to filling in the wholes personally i would weld in a piece but you gotta do what you gotta do lol. after you get it all filled in make sure you block it down with a soft block for curved surfaces and stiff block on flat always cross hatch (sanding in x pattern) this will get you the best results. Your basically always trying to blend old with new. Use 36, 40, 80 grit to clean up and grind out paint and rust. Spread filler and over fill dent or whole. let harden block down with 80 till its close then use 150 to dial it in. after you feel like its close enough your going to sand down all the larger scratches that surround the the filler, you wont sand filler again till its primered. If you started with 36 in the surrounding area then youll use 80 next sand out all the 36 scratches till there 80 grit scratches, then move to 150 grit sand out all the 80 grit size scratches till it all looks 150 then move to 240 doing the same then one more time to 320. clean all sanded area for primer. Etch primer is before primer usually spray all bare metal surfaces with that then spray 3 coats of primer wet. let each coat "flash" or partial dry before spraying next coat. this will get you at least to primer like you tried but this is a qaulity long lasting repair.

The POR-15 is great stuff sandable and paintable

Thanks everyone for your tips and suggestions.. Also decided to just primer the whole car since all the scratches will probly take forever to remove..Im using etching primer so it can help fill scratches, will i be ok with that or should i throw a coat of regular primer before the painting?

not that bad... although it looks alright now it will sneak up on ya later on. best thing to do is cut the rust out and replace but you obviously just wanted a quick cheap fix. props...

you have the right idea, but what you need to do is feather edge the entire panel...what that means you need to smooth everything your workin on with about 120 grit paper and move on up to a finer grit. Your on a great start...don't let anybody tell you other wise. The car from what i can tell is towards the right direction. lmk if you need help with anything else.
