Budget Brand Discussion
Kirker vs. Summit Racing vs. TCP Global
These are three of the budget paints I found online.
Kirker's ULTRA-GLO
$98.99+$15.00 shpping
Comes with activator
1-Gal Paint
1-QT activator
Makes 1.25 gallons of paint (3:1, makes more with additional activator)
Summit Racing's
$112+free shipping
Comes in a kit
1-Gal paint
1-QT reducer
1-QT activator
Makes 1.5 Gallons (4:1:1)
TCP Global's Restoration Shop
$119+$15.99 shipping
Comes in a kit
1-Gal AU Color 2.8 VOC
1-QT activator
No Reducer Required (Optional)
Makes ONE gallon of mixed paint.
I'm interested to see what Honda-Tech thinks of the budget, single-stage urethane, paint kits available online. These are obviously marketed at the budget DIYer. I've seen mixed reviews strung out across the internet. I'd like to keep this based on experience with photos if possible. I'm interested in the longevity of these single-stage paints.
If anyone has experience with a brand not listed, just post up some information on it and I'll add it here. I'd really like to see what people say about the low cost paint options.
FYI:
I do not suggest Rustoleum. Even though I sprayed it, the enamel based paint doesn't hold up to the UV levels we have in Florida. This is after a year.
My experience has been with Rustoleum paint and it just doesn't hold up. Looks great for a limited amount of time, but that's all. I have some OEM bumper and trim pieces, so I'm looking to sand this back (it's been resprayed before I got it) to the factory paint and go from there.

Re: Budget Brand Discussion
Still, 2-3 years is definitely on the short side for a paint job. UV resistant buffing compounds is something I will look into.

Re: Budget Brand Discussion
If your looking for cheap check into Martin Senior paints at NAPA. They are actually pretty good and hold up pretty well. The cost might be a little more but quality is on a higher level. I have used some summit things and just was not impressed with the quality of them. Remember your going to need to sand your car down and seal as well, I would start with 400 wet, then 600 wet, and your going to want to use a white Epoxy sealer to get the red to really shine.

I wouldn't settle for grey.. USE white.. Other wise the red will be kind of dingy and dark and wont pop. There clears are amazing tho, the Tech line is amazing but a little expensive.

WHITE! YESSIR BOSS!
If I sand it back down to the OEM red, shouldn't I be fine to recover it in red? I'm not saying I want to cheap out on the sealer, just wondering. I know I need the sealer since I'm doing some extensive hole repair.

You can sand old paint and use the paint on the car as a "filler" and Do from there as long as its not lifting or anything. If it is bare metal ya you should be sealing with epoxy.
