Body Shop Painters- What gun do you shoot with?
Just curious as to what guns others shoot with...
I use the Iwata LPH-400 as my clear gun
A Sharpe Cobalt set for base coat
and another Sharpe Cobalt set for Primer/Sealer

NICE! im not a fan of the SATA, ive sprayed with them, they are nice, and worth the money. but i liked the atomization of the iwata more.
but i too shoot ALL PPG... i like the DCU 2042... but the DC3000 is good in a pinch! but it buffs out like a **** my back has hurt a couple times cuz of it... but it is hella tough!

I have 2 W-400's,1 for solid bases and one for clear,a lph-400 i use for metallic base, another w-400 i use for primer(i know but it lays it out so fine). We do both car and fleet repair. With PPG.
I have been spraying with Iwatas for the last 5 years,Sata's are ok but they dont bust up paint like the iwatas

a good primer/sealer gun is worth its weight in gold... a poorly laid sealer, can make a lot more work than necessary

Re: (alltech_hybrid)
sharpe cobalt by far... i think they're like 170 or so, but id recomend the 1.4. and just play with the settings til you get it where you like it

Re: (alltech_hybrid)
personally, i prefer to shoot each material with its own gun, and plan on buying another cobalt for metallic bases only. one for metallic/pearl, one for solids. but you can use them for base and clear, but id reccomend a dedicated gun for use with primers, as it tends to require more cleaning.

Re: (alltech_hybrid)
Depends on the viscocity of the material, personal preferences, application, ect. primer 1.7-1.9 ish, base clear 1.3 - 1.4 ish. I've tried a cobalt and I think they are junk, but maybe the one I used was poopy. Their OK for primer though imo.

Re: (msinsky14)
an experienced painter can tell the diff. hands down. laying down base can be done by a monkey, the clear is where a good painter will really stand out. (i should say, non-metallic base is easy) but its all about setting up the gun for each individuals style. and how they shoot it.
ill say one thing i did that i did that was well worth it, was putting on an air swivel where the hose connects to the gun. so much nicer gun/hose control

Re: (msinsky14)
For primer I use my Sata KLC and for base i normally use my Sata digital 3000 HVLP for base and then use my Sata digital 3000 RP for blasting on clear, then my Sata minijet for small things

been using Walcom GEO FX 97 for the last 8 or 9 years, I love the way it lays the clear down, can make it slick like glass or match the factory orangepeel
