1g Talon drag car
Haven't been on this forum in a while. The Talon is much different now.
As it sits now (not as photographed) its certainly capable of 1,000+who and the chassis should be perfectly capable of hitting the traps in under 9 seconds and trap over 165mph. Of course this is all calculated theory at this point. But I feel I've turned out enough of these cars to get an idea of the kind of numbers the car should be capable of producing. I just bought a Sparktech Drag 2 / c.o.p sequential ignition setup. I'll snap some pics once its installed.

Interesting..... would like to see more pics, looks like some good quality work going into this bad bay. What size is that turbo, and what class is it built to run in?

Re: 1g Talon drag car
Big changes this year. Picked up a Tilton Carbon/Carbon twin disc, Spark Tech Drag 2 sequential ignition, New Transfer case, Frontline fab transfer case brace, JIC drag spec coil overs, Wilwood front brakes, Tilton hydraulic release bearing, ATI Super damper and basically every nut and bolt available from ARP made for the car/motor. As the car sits right now it "should" be good for low 8's. Of course we won't know for sure until we run the car in the spring. But until then we can only wait and hope for the best. But heres something to put it into perspective. The car has gone 9.40's @ over 150mph with 700whp and a 100shot (est.800whp) with a standard Mitsubishi gearbox. Nothing fancy. Plus the car weighed a few hundred lbs more. So we're pretty sure a few hundred hp, a few hundred pounds less weight, and a PPG gearset / Tilton twin disc should shave off a full second without question. Probably more but I don't want to start throwing meaningless numbers around. The facts are right now that we have a car that "should" dip into the low 8's however it has not seen the track yet on this setup. Believe me Spring time can't come soon enough!

Honestly, slomofo I'm not certain. However the car is at a shop that is just down the road a bit from one of the best chassis shops in the country. So once the car has been tuned it will go straight to the chassis shop.

Re: 1g Talon drag car
When Ivey had it he ran NHRA Sportsman / Sport RWD for several years and was very successful. I believe he won his class for the season more than just once or twice. He sold me the car in 2006. I was divorced in 2007. So I admit I put it on the back burner for a while. Went through some health related issues. But I'm back on track with it and I'm lucky to have the help and guidance of a few good people.
No plans as far as classes go.

Re: 1g Talon drag car
couple pics of some of the new parts that were installed yesterday and today. Frame has to be notched in back to accommodate the 10.5" wide rear wheels. Other than that the car is going to be operational this week or weekend.

Re: 1g Talon drag car
*Updates*
Well the car is nearing completion. We have a little electrical left to do and we have to install the dry sump on the motor. There are some body modifications that will be performed over the winter. Carbon/Kevlar: Hood, bumper, fenders, doors, roof & hatch w/Lexan. Optic armor (form of Lexan) windshield (Formerly known as Percy Speed glass) The car is about 2500lbs right now. After we swap out all the factory body panels for the Carbon/Kevlar panels and Lexan I should be right around 2500lbs w/me in it. At that weight there should be less breakage. Planning to run the car on roughly 40psi/850whp until I get the suspension dialed in. Then by that time I should have the next motor together. Stronger rods, sleeved and more compression. At which time I'll also have my new turbo and we'll be ready to shoot for 1,200whp. These are the plans. :-)
