Tutorial - Honda Pilot 2006 - Changing Rear Transaxle Fluid
Recently, I had noticed a bit of a rumbling sound coming from my newly purchased 2006 Honda Pilot's 4WD rear differential area whenever I would make slow, tight left or right turns. After doing some research, I determined that either the rear differential fluid was low or that it was time to replace the fluid (Honda recommends changing every 30,000 miles).
Since this was to be my first time doing a fluid replacement, I decided to document the steps as a tutorial with pictures so that if I was successful, the pictures and process descriptions might be helpful to others needing to do the same type of service on their vehicles.
I was successful in replacing the rear differential fluid and I now have no more rumbling sounds during slow, tight turns. I have also noticed a much more smoother acceleration after the fluid replacement.
For those of you that might be interested in doing this yourself, I have attached a PDF file that contains step-by-step instructions with pictures on how to do this. It should take about an hour or so to drain the old fluid and replace it with fresh fluid. Let me know if this was helpful for you.
Thanks!
