Anybody tow near the full capacity with a 4th gen Ody?
I'm getting a free EXTREMELY low mileage 2013 Odyssey in March, along with some furniture and stuff from my in laws house. They're moving from Cali to a much smaller home in South Korea and are downsizing possessions.
I'm flying out from Baltimore and driving about 3,000 miles back.
Original plan was to take a moving truck and drive it back with the Ody in tow on a u-haul auto transport. After factoring in fuel that'd cost about $5,497.00 I figured 8 mpg towing an Ody since it gets 12 mpg normally.
Then I thought about it. The smallest available trailer I can tow that's big enough for the two couches I'm hauling back is 12x6. To tow that trailer I'd have 1,840 left over for cargo weight before I hit the towing capacity and figure I'll use every pound of that. BUT this option, assuming I can pull off 10 MPG towing 3500 lbs would only cost me $1,575.
That's like a $4,000 savings! (YAY I CAN DO MATHS)
But I'm wondering how the Ody will handle towing near capacity through the Rockies and the desert.... anybody have experience towing?
BTW I don't know if it has the towing package. But even if I have to buy the entire package it's only $427.20 with the harness and both size hitch ***** (because BALLER). I can install it myself no problem.

Problem solved. Not towing the Odyssey or towing a trailer. They sold most of the furniture with the house in the end so it's just driving the Odyssey back with a few small sentimental things for the wife in it. Should be fun.

For sure.
Got bad info from the in laws BTW. Ran the VIN the other day. It's a 2007 EX-L not a 2013. They bought it in 2013 from an old Korean woman they know with like 8,000 miles on it in like new condition. It now has 40,XXX on it, still in like new condition LOL.
No touring, no nav. Everything else though. It's damn sweet and for the price I will respect the van for a long time.

That is the old 2 shaft version of the 5 speed auto. Honda did not introduce the 4 shaft version of the 5 speed auto until 2008. The 4 shaft version was an update. I used to know the details, but now don't recall since I don't own that gen anymore (2009).
I'm going to guess the ATF has not been changed. Do the 3X drain and fill, with some runs in between.
