Default 96-01 CRV transmissions A.T 4x2 VS A.T. 4x4

So,

When I was up in the Grand Canyon a couple of weeks ago I spotted a CRV that was 4x4 but what caught my attention was a little sticker that read Over Drive in the back windshield. I go to look and yup it had O/D im like WTH!?

Im thinking that if my auto 4x2 tranny ever gives out (now on 150K) I would want to give that tranny a try to get better HWY MPG.

I stick the 4x4 tranny, find a way to plug the hole for the rear drive shaft and get the 4x4 ecu that it should work and give me better Hwy MPG?

So what do you guys think?
