Default 2005 Pilot Overheating at Long Idle

My 2005 Pilot with 218k miles over heats when sitting at long idle such as getting gas on an empty tank. The temp is right where it should be when the truck is moving. The temp rapidly drops if I rev the engine from idle. The truck has been perfect with regards to cooling up until now.

I just changed out my radiator so I might have damaged something. Both fans work; both the condenser radiator fan turn on when the A/C is on and the radiator fan turns on for a short while after the engine is shutdown. There is plenty of coolant and no leaks. The cap looks fine also.

Any ideas as to what might be causing the overheating?

Update. So I drove it 45 mins, had lunch and then another 45 home. The temp held at 25% the whole way. Idling in the drive it went to 50% (used to go to 100%) and both fans kicked on but at slow speed. Temp stayed at 50% till I revved the engine then it went back to 25%. Possible air lock? Possible the system is relearning the temp limits?

Drive your truck to a step hill and park it with the nose as high as possible , let it warm to a point were you can safely remove the radiator cap , after that start it up, turn up the heater and let it run for about 20 mi. Thats the easiest way to remove all the air from engine ,

Have you done your t belt a d water pump with in the 7 years or 105k ?

Thanks for the help. I did the pump with the timing belt at 120. The dealer told me they have problems with the pump after putting a new belt.

In any case your idea is a good one. Turns out I did not have enough coolant. I assumed it would pull from the overflow when cooling down and when it stopped doing that it was full. I took the cap off and filled. Ran it till hot and turned on the heat to ensure that was filled. Did that twice and it is perfect again. Topped off the overflow.

Thanks for getting back to me.
