Thanks MM! I think I'll take the filter off, replace the hose I spliced and see if that fixes it. It's kind of a pain but I want to eliminate external 'maybe's' before I assume it's internal. Thanks again!

Only way to verify is to get a trans pressure gauge, hook it up to the test ports and verify the pressures are correct.
As for an external filter, I would use a remote oil filter location kit. This allows easier changing and inspection of the filter media. Those inline filters only ever seem to do is leak, clog and cause pressure issues.

    Hello MAD MIKE,

Concerning my 96 Accord having a delay shifting into Drive, do you think it's a pressure issue? I installed an inline Trans filter on the return side when I changed the fluid, could it be restricting flow enough to cause this issue? It shifts what seems to be perfectly in all other phases except engagement into drive. Thanks!

If the light was flashing the alternator was not charging or the ELD in the fuse box may have been faulty. If the charging system is fine, battery holds charge, then there may be another draw.

With it being winter the cold temps can greatly affect the batteries ability to charge/maintain charge. Verify your electrical system is also in proper order. Verify the battery cables are clean, tight and not corroded. Verify the connections to the fuse box, starter and transmission main connections are clean and tight. Verify the body ground is clean and tight. Verify the main engine harness ground is clean, tight and not corroded. Verify the ground bonding jumper on the engine mount is installed correctly, clean, tight, and not corroded. Verify battery voltage in the morning before doing anything, 12.4-12.6 Volts.

Don't dismiss any potential draw without testing first.

Hello Mad mike! I have a 1990 Accord EX-5 speed. For awhile, the battery light flashed off and on periodically-i didnt think anything of it. After awhile, the car wouldnt start after sitting for a few days. I replaced the alternator with a NAPA brand. everything seemed fine. I let it sit over the weekend, and it wouldnt start again. I put a new battery in it-Interstate MP24-it has 1000 cca. It ran fine for a few days, then it sat over another weekend-then it wouldnt start again. I had a mechanic tell me something was drawing on the battery-he checked the neg side of battery and found that 4 amps was being drawn. He began pulling fuses until he found the culprit-the 2 30 amp fuses for the passive restraint seatbelts. We decided to pull them out and rechecked the battery for any draw on it- the amp guage showed 50 milliamps being drawn which he said was normal for this car. after it sits for overnight-nothing again.please help! Im lost!

Nope not a mechanico. Enthusiastic enthusiast.
If you are getting a stumble ~2krpm and have a functional EGR system, check for clogged port(s) on your intake manifold. Check for any stored codes in the ECM. Don't remember what car you have.

hi. mr. mad mike. r u a mechanic? u gave me some insight on some past issues with my honda. i would like ur take on this new issue my car is having. when i am leavin home and start to get my speed up and then get there, my rpm's r not going down where they should. car hesitates(i feel in accelerator) and the needle moves down a notch and than a little more. but it doesn't go down where it should. just feels like it is still revving slightly. i have recently changed battery, filter, alternator and changed tranny fluid and oil. i lucased tranny. am i wasting my time if i change spark plugs???

Did you check the FITV and IAC? There is the cleaning procedure in the FAQ.
