Default How to - JDM ITR HID Headlight and Fog Light Wiring

I've noticed that there are a lot of people still asking how to wire up their JDM ITR HID headlights and fog lights. There once was a good write up but the pictures have been removed so they are almost useless now so I decided to write one up.

JDM ITR Fog Light Wiring

First you will need to get a USDM cruise control switch connector from a 94-01 Integra excluding the Type R or the UKDM fog light switch connector.

Once you locate a connector now you will need to wire up the fog lights. For the USDM connector you will need to tie the two (-) Grounds/black wires to each other and then to a good ground. Next you will tie the two (+) Red wires to each other and then to the fuse box. You will want to connect this wire to a power source that comes on only when the lights are turned on. (On the diagram the wires are yellow)

Next you will need to run the green wire to a 30 or 40 amp relay that is available at any auto parts or Car Audio store. You will then need to run constant power to the relay and add a 30 amp inline fuse between the power source and the relay. You will also to connect the relay to a ground and lastly run a wire from the relay to the brown connector with a blue wire in the engine bay.

The foglights will now work whenever the parking, low or high beam lights are on and the switch is on.

JDM ITR Headlight Wiring

Now that the fog lights are wired you can wire up the headlights. This part is really easy so I will just post the diagrams I used to wire them up and if you have any questions just let me know.

Edit:

I've been getting a lot of questions about what to do if you upgrade from non-HID to HID headlights and only have a 4 wire brown connector. You can do two things, either buy a brown connector with 5 wires and add the wires to your current 4 wire connector. Or you can buy a spare connector and remove the wires from it and then add them to your connector or find the gold spade connectors that the connector uses. Once you do this is how you add them to the connector to wire up your HID headlights.

The first picture shows what you might be starting with. You can see the white part in the connector that will prevent you from adding the wire. You will need to remove it before adding in the wire. You can remove it with needle nose pliers but be careful, it is easy to break. Grab it from the middle and lightly pull it out.

Once the white piece is removed you can now add the extra wire. Make sure it is the right way and you should hear it click when it is in.

Once the wire is added put the white piece back and you should be done and the connector will look like this.

IMO, i would use a larger gauge wire for the wire that goes to the fog lights, and also I would rather take the +12v Constant directly from the battery.

something in the range of 16-14 AWG for the wire that goes from the relay to the TWO H3 Bulbs.

I didn't specify which gauge wire to use but I do agree that something around 16-14 AWG will work. It doesn't really matter where you get the +12v constant just as long as you have a good connection.

it does matter where you get the +12v from...

the wire running from the battery to the fuse box... could be something from 20-18awg...

depending on how large of a bulb you are going to run...the AMPs that the two bulbs pull could be more than the 20-18awg wire could handle.

its all about eliminating the resistance from the battery to the thing that is powered.

Why do you think when Car stereo's are installed.... they run 4-0awg wire directly from the battery to the main distribution block?

LOL...I'm an electrical engineer, I know how current and resistance works. Those car stereos pull a lot more power and current than these fog lights will ever pull.

Have you seen the stock fog light harness? It pulls all its power from the fuse box just like I'm recommending. If the fuse box couldn't handle the current from the fog lights I don't think honda would wired them that way.

OEM wires are fine if you are running 55w halogens... cause it would be a total of 110w running on about 12v giving about a 9amp load...

but.... if you run the bulbs with the oem wiring... there is a larger voltage drop between the bulb and the battery/alt compared to wiring done with a larger gauge...

By reducing the drop in voltage, the bulb would perform better, and produce more lumens...

now the oem wiring is adequate.. but connecting it directly to the bat/alt is better... esp if you use thicker gauge wiring..

btw i run 100w H3 halogens... but i don't have a plastic housing... =D
Another reason why my fogs are powered directly from the battery...

I agree if you are going to run 100w bulbs you are better off getting power from the battery but for the jdm itr front fog lights the bulbs are 55w bulbs so getting power for the fuse box would suffice and would be easier. Even if you got the power from the battery for these fog lights you probably wouldn't see much of a difference. Definitely not enough of a difference to get power all the way from the battery.

I'm from Australia, looking to wire up the fog light switch where the cluster dimmer is.

I already have cruise control on my car from factory option.

Say if I already have the OEM fog light switch with the cruise control harness. Would I wire it up according to this procedure?

Or what if I use the harness from;

the password jdm harnness is just for under the hood. you would still have to make the under dash harness with the realy and wires. Click the image to open in full size.

I'm not sure what the cruise control harness looks like since my car didn't come with it so your best bet would be to use your cruise control connector if you are not using it) and then wire up the lights according to my write up.

A side note:
Make sure that the switch has a VERY GOOD GROUND!!

On the cruise control harness:
The two red wires (+) go together
The two black wires (-) go together
and the green wire goes to the relay as the input in

Not all relays have the same input/output spades, USE THE DIAGRAM on the relay box for the more accurate results.
