HID interferes with radio reception?

Re: HID interferes with radio reception?
No issues with interior lights. Reception is good until I drive further out from radio station's home city and I start to lose it and when it's time to turn off headlights the reception is back as if I just turned on an fm booster. Maybe I can move the ballast elsewhere or shield it somehow.

Re: HID interferes with radio reception?
theres usually those magnetic things that goes around the wiring for the HID, i can't really remember where, but if you don't have them, that's probably the problem. if you want, i can take pictures and stuff.

Re: HID interferes with radio reception?
so after researching for about an hour, i'm still pretty clueless as to why a magnet helps when it surrounds a power cord. i think it's because when electricity passes through a wire, it creates a magnetic field, and the magnet surrounding it somehow dampens it... or something. someone help me on this. otherwise, you can read

Re: HID interferes with radio reception?
How are the ballasts hooked up? Using stock connectors, or using an independent wire harness with relay?
There are also noice filters, some audio expert may be able to describe it further.

Stock connectors. It's a plug and play system. It's odd though how the HIDs only interferes when my reception is weak as when I'm in my hometown as compared to when I'm at work (closer to radion station). Btw Omalika, where would I find one of those magnetic sleeves for the wires?

Re: HID interferes with radio reception?
it's just a circular magnet around the power cable leading to the HIDs. look on the AC adapters around your house, most or all of them that convert AC to DC will have one... i.e. laptops, stereos, game systems.

What you're looking for is a ferrite core, but i don't know how it would make up for the unshielded ballast.
The only ballasts that'll interfere with your radio reception are the shitty, unshielded ones from cheap hid kits.
This is one of the reasons why HID "kits" are not recommended. OEM hid projector/ballast setups sell all week long for less than $150 on ebay, so I don't see why people still opt to pay $80-100 for radio reception-interfering ballasts, chrome-melting bulbs, and sub-par lighting performance.

Re: HID interferes with radio reception?
its common for radios to pick up interference from spark plug wires as well. the common remedy to this it to run a ground strap to your hood.(this is common on alot of american cars from the factory) you may want to try this to see if it helps.
also try using a relay harness that pulls power for the ballasts straight from the battery and give them there own ground. if there putting any kind of noise into the dc system, going to the battery for power may help filter alot of this out as well.
hope this helps.
