Default 95 ej1 hi beam problem... insight?

Ok so my newly aquired ej1 has an original glass stanley and a depo glass replacement. Now heres what is buggin me: if i turn on the headlights normally, my passenger light will come on as a high beam and my driver one will be normal, than i click the high beams on and they just switch places, my driver side becomes the high beam and the pass side is just normal lol. And heres the kicker: if i just hold back the high beam lever to flash without clicking it back, they both operate normal and become high beams. Now i can handle pretty much any problem these cars throw at me, but wiring has never been my sport, im hopin this will be an easy fix. Anybody ever experience this? And if so how was it fixed?

Maybe i shud have posted this in the 92-00 civic/del sol section, but im trying to be respectful of the forum rules and mods. However i think this would get a better response there, and i dont wanna make another thread, so can one of you all knowing mods please move it there for me? I would greatly appreciate it.

There are a number of things that could happen here. First off.. check the fuse for each headlight (high and low beams) If they are okay then you need to move under the hood and check the wiring. Honda has 3 wires for each bulb, What usually happens when using those higher watt retarded xenon colored bulbs is that the socket that connects to the bulb will heat up, melt and become damaged, then it needs to be replaced with a heavy duty socket. This is where wire mix up can happen as the person who changed the socket did not know the proper order to connect the wires as the new socket has different color wires from the original Honda socket. Also another problem would be the previous owner didn't know why one side light wasn't working and jumped power from the left side to the right side or vice versa to get both lights working, you will need to remove the front bumper and check to see if a single wire or two is running from headlight to headlight, if that is the case then power was jumped from one side headlight causing that light pattern.

This of course is an easy fix. All you have to do, once the bumper is off.. Check to see if there are wires running from headlight to headlight and remove that wire or wires. if there are no wires, Move to each headlight. The socket is wired incorrectly and all you have to do is switch 2 wires. The black will stay the same.. I'm not sure exactly what colors your replacement socket has but they all must have a black wire with 2 reds or a black wire with one green and one red. Switch the red and green if working with that socket. If not, Switch the red and red then check to see if the beams are in their respective order. you will need to switch these wires on each headlight as you said none of them are lighting up properly. Good luck!

No doubt bro, glad to narrow down the troubleshooting for ya, When i bought my EJ8 i had the same light issues as you, Turns out the previous owner jumped power from the left to the right headlight. i removed that wire and realized the problem was a blown fuse that he overlooked, replaced that sucker and everything went back to normal.
