How much should a k series motor cost?
I need a legit price or price range on a k20 motor, my friends said they're 1k, what? They're from 7 to 10k right cause they're the top honda motor made to date? Me and them were arguing cause I'm gonna get a d16z6 with vtec for 600 saying that's too much for it. Sorry I'm a newbie.

Next, what k20 do you want; "American" or "Japanese"?

Ive seen the k20a3 go for 500 to 800 an k20a2's go for 1200 to 1600
The price all depends on which k series motor you are looking at

Re: How much should a k series motor cost?
The general rule here is that you get what you pay for. That said, there can be bargains to be found.
I paid $3900 for a TSX engine K24a2 with 35,000 documented miles on it and it came with a warranty. K24's are sought after as swaps for K20a3's so command a higher price.
I did find a K24 for $2000 in my search but it was undocumented as to miles, had no warranty and looked, well, used.
As others have said you can get an engine for as little as $500 but when you measure thetime and effort to bolt on all the bits and drop it in, who wants to find it has low compression and burns oil?
I say spend a little more and try to get a warranty.

but like i said, the motor is only a motor, you'll need TONS of other expensive parts to put that motor in your NON-K car(assuming thats what you're trying to do here).

Re: How much should a k series motor cost?
well, i did a K20 to K24 swap and parts seemed to interchange with few issues. What expenses are you talking about. I did clutch (stage 3) flywheel (aluminum lightened) header throttle body (S-type) and a few other things just for performance and yes, it cost a bit. But the reward was awesome 240 bhp.

Like others have mentioned, it depends on where you're looking. Deals can be found, but without papers or a warranty, you're taking a chance.
With that said, I picked up a k20a2, 6 speed trans, harness, ecu and shifter box with cables for $1000. Seller said it had under 40k, but couldn't prove it. I took a chance and when I opened her up, it looked on par for a 40k-ish motor. Runs great too.
Now the swap parts where about $3500. And honestly, now that I have done it, I see where I could have saved some money buying used.
Point being, the deals are out there, but it's a chance you take. If you want a warranty, buy from a reputable source. Of course the price will be much higher just for the swap. Add in the swap parts and you'll most likely be in the $6500+ range. That's if you do the swap.
That's my opinion anyway.
It's just my daily.......

And that was the FIRST place I looked.
Can you at least try and do some legwork of your own before asking these "help me settle a bet" questions?

Re: How much should a k series motor cost?
You can get a K20A2 long block for about $1500, basically this means a cylinder head bolted to a cylinder block with oil pan and valve cover, not much else if anything.
There are way too many variables to provide an accurate estimate. Many of these include but are not limited to, parts that appeal to you, mechanical knowledge and skill, tools available to you, how long do you anticipate gathering the needed parts, local market.
here is a good list
**SWAP PARTS LIST: The thread to end all the questions.** - K20A.org .:. The K Series Source . Honda / Acura K20a k24a Engine Forum
I wouldn't expect to spend less than $5000 on everything you need including the swap and that's using sub prime parts.
My main focus, unless you're planing on tearing the engine completely apart, is to get the best swap for my money. This is not an area to try and cheap out on.
A lot of enthusiasts seem to believe they can also get a swap and drop it right in overlooking consumable parts that often should be replaced. A K20A2 can be as much as 13 years old. If you don't plan on buying from places like hmotorsonline.com I would only buy from a salvage yard where I was able to get the car with it or the engine wasn't pulled without the miles being verified.
Will this be a daily driven vehicle? If so I would have a backup vehicle to drive as you may hit some brick walls that may prevent you from getting back on the road quickly. This topic goes back to my mentioning your knowledge and skill and tools available.
Additionally, your funding can slow down how quickly you can get this going, if something breaks or you can't get it to work with what you have you will either have to wait or spend more than you anticipated by paying someone who can correct your issue.
I spent over $10k on my swap, even with discounts. But I wanted all new stuff and some high end parts like a Raychem DR25 Milspec engine harness.
If it were me and I wanted something on the road quickly, cheap and be fast at the same time this is what I would buy.
K24A1
This will get you about 240 whp and 170 tq

K24A1
- Making sure it was sound and replace all seals and gaskets (except the head gasket)
- swap the cams, rockers, and rocker shafts from the K20A2 cylinder head.
- Or do a VTEC killer set up using K20A/2/Z1 cams
- install an RBC manifold
- get a PLM K swap header https://www.privatelabelmfg.com/prod...k20-header.htm
- Skunk2 Mega RR 76mm exhaust system
- 1st gen Kpro then send off to Hondata for Kpro IV upgrade
- It has a tall 1st and 2nd gear that will help reduce wheel spin
- It has the more desirable 4.7 final drive (vs 02-04 Type S and Base RSX 4.3)
- gears are spaced out a little which some will argue better suits a torquey power band
- K series gear ratio table http://tinyurl.com/nh34qn6
- Base RSX axles (if swapping into a 92-95 Civic) or insane shafts k swap axles INSANE SHAFTS 500whp instock $375 shipped! - K20A.org .:. The K Series Source . Honda / Acura K20a k24a Engine Forum
This will get you about 240 whp and 170 tq

Re: How much should a k series motor cost?
Always keep an eye out on CL....I purchased a k24a4 longblock from an 05 accord for a decent deal in good condition AND a k20z3 longblock with a 3rd cylinder rod knock for cheap from an 08 civic si (cylinder head in good condition).
I just started a build thread for my k20/k24 and will be posting all the prices associated with the build. Check it out https://honda-tech.com/k-series-153/...d-crx-3234617/
Good deals are definitely out there, just need to keep checking CL frequently Download the app and check it more than u do your fb lol I'm sure you'll find some good deals. Best of luck.

Re: How much should a k series motor cost?
Something that should be noted is that you cannot put a K20A, K20A2, K20Z1, K20Z3 head on an Accord block without changing pistons as you will get piston to valve contact.

Re: How much should a k series motor cost?
wow..I guess it all depends on where you're and the condition+accessories that come with the motor which will determine the price of the motor.
