Right now I'm using the hybrid racing cold air intake hose that ends near the driver wheel. It's nice for the access to colder air, but it's also dangerous in Florida with our rainy season. Currently using a PRC manifold but got an RBC that will get installed soon.

Should I stick with the Hybrid Racing Cold Air Intake, or is there something decently acceptable to use?

Since you are already aware of the dangers of running a Cold Air style intake tube (filter low and close to the ground where water can enter more easily), and you live in Florida where heavy rain events are quite common... I suspect you already know in your gut what the right answer is. You are 50 times more likely to hydro-lock an engine with a low mount cold-air type intake system than a stock style or top mount short ram system. Many companies have tried to make a "water bypass" section of the intake to reduce this risk, but they don't necessarily work as advertised.

So the question you have to ask yourself really is: "Am I willing to risk my engine just to get a couple extra HP" ??? If your answer is YES, then roll the dice. Since I typically replace 3-5 engines each year for customers who have cold air style intakes and have sucked up water, I am happy people are willing to take that chance. Hell just last year I had an RSX-S come back up from the beach (Orange Beach) on a roll-back during Spring Break... AEM Cold air and a rod hanging out of the block !!!

Me personally, I prefer a top mount short ram... and I make the couple extra HP up with another mod.

You can always cut the intake in half and insert an aluminum tube with hose clamps. When it starts raining you can move the filter to the cut location and store the silicone section in the car. If you take precautions you can have the best of both options.

I cut my hybrid racing cold air in half from day one because I didn't want it that low like your talking about. it sets behind my radiator which I know is a hot area but even after driving in a hard rain I am yet to notice any water on the filter. I think if you cut it right you could turn it sideways over the transmission for an even higher location.

Thanks for your response. That's definitely what I would like to avoid. Going K Series has been expensive, why risk losing it in case of heavy rain while driving. Then again 3-5 motors a year isn't too bad (or is it?). Sometimes I would just unhook it from the throttle body, but even then people said thats a bad idea.

I take back what I said. After the last post I made on this thread I went and pulled my filter off. The wire mesh has rust on it inside and out and its not looking to good. I had to buy a new filter before driving any longer. If you keep it I would advise turning it up above the transmission.
