What Honda would you get for a Vietnam Veteran?
I'm new here and not allowed to post on the other subforums yet.
One of my friends is a Vietnam Veteran and recently diagnosed with Bladder Cancer. He also has considerable mental illness that I'm trying to get him help for. The drive from his apartment to the Long Beach VA hospital is 45 miles round-trip and in the coming months, he may need to drive there two to three times per week. He's at risk of becoming homeless in the next year or two as his savings is being depleted.
His Chevy S10 truck has a wrecked rear differential (among other problems) and I've suggested he dump it in favor of a Honda, or even a Toyota.
I don't think he can go wrong with a Honda Civic or Honda Accord. How old of a vehicle, and how many miles, would be your limit under these circumstances? He needs something dependable and reliable, especially on account of his high-anxiety levels. I realize there are no guarantees in life, but the goal is a vehicle reasonably certain not to be a turd.
Unless we can find a charity to help out, there's no way he (or he and me combined) can afford beyond $2,500-3,000. A trade involving his Chevy S10 would be ideal if we could find a charity willing to entertain such a deal.
Any ideas welcomed!

That's what I was thinking too. Problem is, his current truck is a year 2000 and only has 62,000 miles. Despite the fact Honda's can do 300K (or more) he has this mental hangup on buying an "older" and "more worn out" car.
