Default Deleting Hybrid system from CR-Z, replace with normal L15 engine

Could it be done and would it be worth it? How much weight would it save? Would it get better fuel economy?

It would save weight but you would lose a lot of "low" end torque. A member on the crz forum had his turned off for a bit (still had the batteries and electric motor) and said it was gutless. He also has flash pro and a cam and was revving it out to 7400 rpm I think.

I am by no means an expert, however the way it's wired and installed on the engine it's technically possible! I believe the weight the IMA system ads is around 100 something? Low hundreds I'm pretty sure. It depends on your resources I guess. There are some sweet weight saving ideas Spoon has come up with without going to extreme and keeping the IMA. It's all about your style! Let us know if you do it!

I think it's safe to say that it would definitely get worse fuel economy. That is, after all, the purpose of the hybrid system. The only way you might possibly get any better fuel economy is with 100% highway driving.

With enough time and money anything is possible. I see it as totally pointless though, K swap or nothing.

I wish it could go the other way. Bridge the batteries somehow, double the voltage to increase the output of the electric motor. Doubling the system voltage would also increase the regenerative cycle, using the hybrid drive more like a KERS system

Less battery capacity, but more fun. Electric motors are awesome.

It would be interesting to see someone try bridging the batteries! I know Jackson racing makes a pretty sweet supercharger kit that isn't that expensive and ads some serious gains without hurting reliability or fuel economy. Check it out!

On a side note I think it would be cool if Honda released a CRZ with the basic fit engine and maybe a diesel model using one of Hondas popular diesel engines from Europe! I like the idea of it.

Removing a system that assists in getting better fuel economy and still ask if your get better mpg...........wow..........

If you did that than you'll end up making that small engine work even harder to move that shell.

I find it highly ironic that we're on a website devoted to modifying econoboxes to increase performance, but no one sees any value in trying to go after the hybrid system

Its really hard to remove not many have done it. They also have big magnets that need to be removed, alot of people have been losing limbs because they dont have the proper tools.

Do you really have any proof of this?

It's a complex system and you'll have to remove EVERYTHING that deals with the electric motor system and replace it with non-eco friendly parts. If you're prepared than I suggest you get started as this is not a weekend project.

Drive it like you stole it or just waste money on something mad time consuming.
