Default Ideas..B16B and the Top fuel Turbo K3T

just wondering how rare theB16B type R engine is and wondering if a genuine top fuel turbo (K3T) will add alot of power to this engine

adj. rar·er, rar·est

1. Infrequently occurring; uncommon: a rare event; a plant that is rare in this region.
2. Excellent; extraordinary: a rare sense of honor.
3. Thin in density: rarefied: rare air.

1. Its not rare for us, we can just buy it from most motor importers. Take directly from HMO:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">30006 - B16B (EK TypeR) Complete Change Over
185Hp 117 Trq 10.8 Compression(JDM)
$ 3800.00 Plus shipping and handling.
</TD></TR></TABLE>

It might be rare for the importers to find them, but not for people who are looking for them, we can just buy it. I rather think of it an en expensive high end motor, than a rare high end motor.

2. Its a rather high end motor so in this sense, its pretty rare IMO.

3. Not applicable.

Yes a turbo kit will add power, how much depends on a lot of factors. Not familiar with the top fuel turbo, but any basic turbo kit will add power.

No, High compression will produce more power then a low compression motor if the turbo kit was the same and settings was the same, assuming both were tuned correctly.

a b16b isn't HONESTLY worth the "trouble"/money over a B18C(5/R), since it's basically a de-stroked B18.

What "trouble"? What money over? They are cheaper then B18C5's.

Its de-stroked for a reason. How can you claim its not worth something, have you seen one in action, HONESTLY?

There was an article in Super Street a couple of years ago with a top fuel factory CTR and DC5 Type R. The B16B and the top fuel turbo kit put out mid to high 400 hp's. So yeah you can definately get some power outta that motor. It really depends on how much you spend and what you do to the motor.

If I can find the old article I'll try to get some pics up.

i would get a regular b16 and use the left over money to build the bottom end with pistons, rods, headstuds, flywheel, clutch, and new bearings....if you spend 3800 on the motor your defiently wasting your money.

For the price of a b16b you can have a semi built b16a which will outpower the b16b and be more reliable

I would leave the head stock...if your not planning on making mroe then 400whp....and a b16a complete swap is like 1700 compared to 3800 for the b16b....which is a complete waste of 2100 dallors

b16a. head work. itr/ctr valvetrain. ctr cams. ctr pistons with matching rods. After all that you will probably make as much power as the B16B and it most likely won't be as realible as one built from the factory.

And you were talking forge internals plus turbo kit. most likely wont be realible as a factory built B16B.

I'd never buy a B16B, I would definately buy something cheaper and build it like you have suggested, but highly doubt it will ever be more realible then a factory HONDA motor.

BTW, he already has the B16B.

No one has mentioned that a b16b swap usually includes the ctr trans. I sold mine for 1200 bucks a few months ago. So........3800-1200=$2600 just the engine. Which for what it is isn't bad. You just need to throw a new crank and rods and you have a 1.8l
