Default Automatic B18C swap into EG NEED HELP, don't fit!

ok I just took the stock motor out. Do I use the stock wiring harness fo all the wires? I'm really confused about wiring up the ECU and the VTEC. I've searched the forum but I don't know if Automatic swapping is different from Manual. I'm talkin' about the wires and stuff. Do you wire the same way as Manual?

Also what is IAB??

I went to this site: http://www.c-speedracing.com/h...4.php

How would I know if my stock engine has vtec or not? It's a single cam 95 Civic EX. It says SOHC VTEC on it so I'm assuming it is a vtec. So does that mean all I need to do is two wires? That's what the site said.

The battery terminal wire is on the opposite side since the motor is JDM, how do I get it to the passenger side because that's where the battery is? by the way this wire is a red wire.

Thanks a lot.

Auto to Manual swap is exactly the same, but the auto has a plug on the shift solenoids, that's the only difference. Underneath your intake manifold, there's a little black box with vacuum lines coming off of it; if you look on the black box, there's a plug on it, that's the IAB. Use the stock harness, some things will have to be stretched or lengthened due to the larger motor. From the new harness that comes with the motor, cut off the IAB plug and the knock sensor plug, splice it onto your stock harness and run the wires to the ECU.

this guy tells me the B18C harness is less work. But I'm not worried about that right now. If you can walk me through the whole wiring process then I would really appreciate it. I'm just trying to get all the help I can get about this whole thing.

The problem I'm having right now is making the motor fit with the motor mounts. The back and the one of the sides fit but the other one looks like it needs to be cut from the body, moved, and then weld it back.

thanks for the replies.

Get the any b-series driver's side mount, keep the stock rear mount with a 94-01 automatic rear L-bracket and trans mounts. The GSR harness will NOT work, since the american GSR's don't come in automatic, so there's no plug for the shift solenoids. You need to either modify your stock harness or cut/extend the wires on the JDM harness (Modifying the stock harness, much easier).

the passenger side mount don't fit. It looks like I have to cut it and move it and weld it back in to make it fit OR get 94-01 Integra Automatic passenger side mounts. All the B series mount that are online are for manual, I haven't found auto anywhere. Mine's an automatic, it won't work. Here are some pics:

This is the passenger side mount:

This is the mount from the motor, the one that came with it.

We in the swap industry call that "customization".

Ok well I just saw this thread, so sorry if I'm late. I have a 1993 automatic hatch and I swaped in an automatic ls/vtec set up into it. To put in the motor, you will need a rear engine bracket from an automatic 94-99 LS integra. My tranny mount was also from an automatic 94-99 LS integra, my driver side mount is from a 5-speed 94-99 integra, I had to bang out the area of the engine bay (with a mallet) where the alternator goes because it would rub. Other than that the engine drops in just fine. You shouldn't have to cut that passenger side bracket or relocate it. I used my stock wireing harness and wired in for v-tec and it works just fine. I've had my set up for over a year and there is no problem with it. If you have any more question just PM me or e-mail me at masala_man@hotmail.com.

i've done this swap. the pass side frame bracket needs to be cut and rewelded...basically shortened and lowered. i also think i had to do a little shimming of the upper driver and pass side mount to get the lower mounts to bolt up right and keep the drive line even. i don't really remember, but i may have had to dent the frame some since the end of the tranny comes very very close to the frame.

the wiring is a ******* mess. since you have a eg, you are also going to need a transmission control module (tcm). there are maybe 20 wires that need to go from tranny to ecu, tcm, shifter. i had some drawn out very specific diagrams to do this. you should be able to get a helms and see the pins and wire codes. <----again this is the most time consuming part. so you need the auto ecu and tranny ecu.

make sure you have a automatic intermediate shaft. the you can reuse your civic shift cable.

i think that's it. let me know if you need a jdm auto ecu or anything else.

^jayp, you didn't have to wire in a tranny control module? which tranny and what ecu did you use?

hey I got the motor in, I just need to know how to do the wiring. I got wires comming out of the tranny that don't plug into anywhere on the stock EG harness. I'm having problems with the wires because everything is on the opposite side since it's JDM and I don't know how to extend everything. My p72 ecu came with the motor. The motor came with everything. Are you saying I need to buy the tcm and tranny ecu?? I'm confused. Please help.

hopefully jayp will let us in whether a tcm had to be wired in. i did a non vtec auto swap and with the obd1 b series auto i had to wire in the tcm for the tranny and ecu.

what did you end up doing to get the motor to bolt in? doesn't look like you messed with the pass side tranny mount. i've seen 3-4 different ways to bolt the motor in.

why not use an automatic p28 that is chipped to run the dohc vtec. that way you dont use the TCM at all. and wiring is easier.

and nothing will be ont eh oppoist side since you are not going to use the harness that came on the b18c, you will use your stock harness and make it fit the new engine.

you know how to do that? how can I get the P28 chipped? I think I'mma have to bring it to the shop and let them finish up the wiring and stuff. My friend's dad cut and welded the mount that came with the motor. The motor doesn't look really straight but it's aight, as long as it fits. The tranny is hanging a little bit under the car I think. I will try to get some new pics soon.

so let me get this straight....you did a non vtec B18C swap? are you sure?....I'm confused. Or do you mean your EG was non vtec and you swapped in an Automatic B18C?

how many plug clips go to your automatic b series tranny? how many went to the d series auto tranny? if there are more plugs than are on your d series you are probably gonna have to wire in a tranny control module. i know someone who did a b16 auto swap and they had to wire in tcm even though it was jdm...maybe there are some b series automatics where you can just plug and play...never heard about this though till jayp said he just plug and played. have you im'd him? let me know about your tranny sensor clips.

my friend is doing the wiring. He said he plugged in all the wires and everything. The only wires that are left overs are the ones from the B18C tranny, they don't plug in anywhere...here are some pics of them. there's two in the front and two in the back of the B18C tranny.

Here are some more pics:

yeah i would say you have to wire in a tcm. i had this same issue. the car will drive but won't shift at all.

there seems to be a simple binary system with two of the shift solenoids on top there that are plugged in...basically to make the tranny shift or hold a certain gear. those extra plugs are, i believe, countershaft and mainshaft sensors and all they are for is for your 'automatic' down and upshifts based on load, rpm, tps, etc. i haven't actually messed with it, but i think it would be easy to set it up to manually shift the tranny with the auto shifter. i'd love to have another turbo hybrid auto to mess with . as long as you can set it up to manually shift, i would think you can run a manual ecu.

My car wouldn't start at all. So your car starts and drives but it's only on 1st gear?

What do you mean by manually shift? How can you do that when it's an automatic? is that possible? I want it to shift like an automatic and I don't want to change to manual ECU because I'm not converting my car from auto to manual. I'm keeping it auto. I'm trying to talk to some Honda technicians so I'll get more answers hopefully by Tuesday.

It starts!!!

my friend did something with the wires. He used the JDM harness and extended the wires I think. I'm not so sure but it starts. The problem now is the shifting. When you turn the engine on, the wheels just starts spinning and accelerating WHEN IT'S IN "P". So it's jacked up off of the ground right now. He said he needs to do something with the shift linkage or something. I dunno. The speedometer went up to around 60 and then I turned it off. I dunno if the speedometer is right though.

It's really loud, but I think that's because I don't have the bottom part of the headers. So I'm ordering a header right now.

I still got other little problems like the motor mount and stuff like that but that's not important to me right now. I just need it to start and run. The tranny is hangin' a little low underneath the car, (so basically it's stickin' out a little). I think it's because of the passenger side mount. My engine bay doesn't have extra room compared to the other swap pics that I see online and the motor is slanted and not straight. But that's ok, as long as it runs, I can fix that later right?.

Got any idea on what to do about that accelerating problem?

i believe when my car wouldn't shift, it was stuck in second gear or first (don't exactly remember). as soon as i wired in the tcm it worked perfect. since you have the extra plugs, i don't think you have any other options. maybe it will work or might work with a p28. i'm kind of curious to see. good luck. which ecu are you using again?

He used the JDM harness, therefore those extra plugs are plugged in. But if he uses the stock harness, they don't go anywhere and the car won't start at all. So right now we're using JDM harness, automatic B18C ECU. I'm going to let him try a few things and I'm gonna talk to some technicians tomorrow and see if I can get some more answers. What swap did you do?

i am the one who did a '95 b18b1 non vtec swap into a '93 civic dx hatch. in my particular application, i had to use a tcm. the usdm p75 auto requires the tcm as well as the tranny, so there was no way around it at the time.

i have a friend who did a b16 swap into a obd1 civic as well...not sure if he used the accompanying jdm b16 auto or a usdm integra automatic. he used a jdm p30 auto ecu which i know he wired in a tcm to get it to work. i am pretty positive you need one.

the older and obd1 civic were the only exceptions to not having a tcm from the factory. the trannies also were very simple and less plugs. preludes, accords, integras (even obd0 DA integra) all utilize a tcm. now, even the obd2 civics utilize them.

as for jdm gsr and sir auto, they use tcm as well.
