B16A vs. B16B
I was wondering mainly what the difference between the b16a and b16b are. The b16a is a JDM Si motor that supposed to push about 170 hp. b16b is JDM CTR motor that pushesabout 185 hp and comes with a 4.4 LSD tranny. what are the differences between these two motors and what tranny does the b16a come with?

Correct me if I am wrong, the b16b has a itr crank and 12.1 comp pistons and much better cams, the b16a is pretty much the same as the usdm version, but a little more comp and a better ecu. Hopefully that helps!!!

the b16b does not have an itr crank it uses the same one as the b16a. the b16b has a longer rods, itr block, itr head, and agressive oem cams

LSD yes, "dual synchros" no... and the "one piece shift fork" is the same as all other B series hydro trannies. Trust me, I had a CTR tranny. Had it apart to put in the 4.75 final drive. Its the same internally minus the LSD.

really, it was my understanding that it had dual synchros in 2nd 3rd and 4th gear, is that not correct? there was thread on here where a guy disected both a r and non-r trans and the non-r had a 2 piece fork.

Well I do remember there was nothing different about the synchros. I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary on the shift forks either. Looked just like any other B series tranny. Honda doesn't list any differences either...

So how is what he said a "lie"? He didn't say the valvesprings or retainers were unique... He also said nothing about the oil pump/water pump being "special". The ITR units of oil pump/water pump are identical to the GSR parts. Check the part number. I am also pretty sure you will find that ITR/CTR retainers are the same as the GSR parts as well. People need to just freaking drop the nit picking crap about how unique the CTR engine is.

sorry i misinterprited it, i thought he was saying that the ctr shared nothing in common with other b's but now i see he was referring rods/pitons/crank only, my bad, i was actually saying how NOT unique the ctr is by pointing out the parts it shares with other motors.

Think of the B16B simply as a destroked ITR engine.
One other thing that should be noted is that the pistons found in the CTR engine are not really the greatest for burn efficiency. The last two B16B's i pulled apart had the pistons carboned up as hell, even coming out of Japan. I believe the domes to be too aggresive for a good fuel burn.

this is why i elected to go with jdm gsr instead of b16b; my car is maybe 2800+ with me in it, so a b16b would have done nothing for me.
