2000 Civic DX VTEC Swap
Hey guys, so I bought a Honda Civic DX which comes with a D16Y7 engine. I'm looking into doing an engine swap to a B18C or K Series engine... My question is, Can I replace just the head to get VTEC or do I need to swap the whole block. Also should I get a transmission out of a GS-R? and lastly someday I am hoping to go Turbo with this, what exactly should I do now to make that easier in the future?
Thanks guys, I would like to know all the details about how to put VTEC in my car.

Re: 2000 Civic DX VTEC Swap
A VTEC swap for your engine is know as the "mini me" swap and there are a ton of write ups about this, but long story short you do not need the entire VTEC engine just the head and a few other odds and ends. Also, you cannot use a GsR trans with your D16 so another short answer, no you should not get one for your setup. The best trans you can really go to right now is the S20 D series EX trans. Best gear ratios for acceleration and available LSD. There is a huge price gap between a B18 swap and K swap, so get a budget together before you try and decide which way you go. As for going boost, are you talking about boosting your D series or after a swap? If you want to boost your D, do the aforementioned VTEC conversion using a d16y8 head and the S20 ex trans swap. You can do all of that for around $700-800 and will experience gains now as well as be helping yourself for going the boosted route in the future.
