Default 18 wheeler delivery truck with NO crane

thats what the seller said. An 18 wheeler will show up at my house tomorrow with no mechanical ability to get the engine off.

How do you guys normally have your engines dropped at your door? He said they normally ship to shops with loading bays, etc.

I've got a tacoma 4X4, will the bed on it reach close to the level of the 18 wheeler?

Dont worry about it.
It only takes 4 people to lift and drag the whole thing.

I hope ur good friends with your neigbhors. Sometimes they do come in handy.

All i'm gonna find in the middle of the day out here is the me, the driver, my mom and my dog. It should only take two people to drag it tho, just worried about the vertical. surly they have some pullout metal planks...

yeah, i was thinkin that too, maybe egytian style?

or you and another person can use a solid beam of something and rope hte motor to it, squat down put the beam on your shoulder and lift it up and walk it off...

if the truck tray has a ramp that is...

i wnet to pick my block up it was in a huge pallet, had to break it open at the depot and ask one of the guys there to help me lift it into my trunk,

but off an 18 wheeler!

damn that sounds tuff.

good luck man!!!

Whatever you do be careful. Death or other serious injuries can occur. It happened to a service writer at a shop near mine. He slipped and got his head crushed. Be careful.

Back your Tacoma up to the truck trailer. Stand on the back of the Tacoma with another guy and lift it from the trailer to the bed of your truck. Then take it from the bed of your truck to where you need it. I did this with one friend, unloading a B20b motor. A full changeover won't be that much heavier.

well, it'll have no tranny and i assume it will have all fluids in it (sneaky hunch), so it shouldn't weigh much more than 300lbs. Shoot, i lift that every week in the gym; hope the driver will be able to handle his end, they're usually big lugs.

we shall see soon enough...all i know is it better be that low milage '98 i paid for. The engine was in Montreal and the salesman was in Toronto....

thanks guys,

When I picked up my d16z it was 425lbs for the engine + tranny, the high low driver stuffed it in the back of my cherokee, and smashed the plastic and my hatch shocks...

Hell slip the driver a $20 or two, I'm sure that will entice him to help when it isn't his responsibility to help. Has aways worked for me. he won't do it alone for that price but if you can't round up enough strong people to help that may get you the extra hand.

aaack - that's why i hate dealing these engine importer bandits; now its "coming" on monday. I thought i found a good guy finally at a1jdmengines.com, Tom went out of his way to help me (ie. actually calls back with info) and the best part is that he could speak legible english.

But HE has to deal with the crazy importer dummies and he finally gave we "Zafier's" number, now i'm chasing him. They've had my engine since last week and every single day they were "definately going" to ship it. NOW today they will "DEFINATELY" ship it out.

Beyond that Zafier told me that the truck DOES have the ability to put the engine on the floor for an extra 20$ charge (if i understood his english right). They just better send me what i ordered and paid for...

an annoyed customer

Can't you just use an engine hoist/lift to pull it off the truck??

Thats what we did at the shop when my pallet arrived.....
