Honda Civic: How to Replace Windshield Wiper Blade Arms

Harsh weather conditions inflict a lot of wear and tear on windshield wiper arms. From misalignment to actual physical damage, it's necessary to replace the windshield wiper blade arms on your Honda Civic. Because this DIY project requires minimum time, money, and expertise, just about anyone can pull it off in a matter of minutes. All you need to get started is a simple repair tool and replacement materials, which can be purchased at a low price online or at an auto parts store. However, keep in mind that quality is important when it comes to windshield wiper blade arms, so you may want to invest the few extra dollars for higher quality wiper blade arms that can withstand harsh weather conditions.

Materials Needed

  • New windshield wiper blade arms
  • 14mm socket and ratchet

Step 1 – Remove the windshield wiper arms

  • Open the hood of the car.
  • With a 14mm socket, remove the stud at the base of the windshield wiper arm, which is located on the plastic windshield cowl.
  • Gently wiggle the wiper arm up and down until it releases from the stud.
  • Do the same with the other windshield wiper. Be sure to remember which windshield wiper's length corresponds to which stud.

Pro Tip

The stud may be protected by an easy-to-remove cover or cap, which can be removed by hand.

Step 2 – Remove the windshield wiper blades

  • Push the center tab of the wiper blade down.
  • Then, pull it up and off of the windshield wiper arm.
  • Do the same with the other windshield wiper blade.

Step 3 – Attach the new windshield wiper blades

  • Insert the hook of a new windshield wiper blade into the center tab of a new windshield wiper arm.
  • Pull back on the wiper blade until you feel it lock into place.
  • Do the same with the other windshield wiper blade.

Step 4 – Install the new windshield wiper assembly

  • Position the base of the new windshield wiper arm onto the stud. Make sure the wipers are in the correct side.
  • Secure it in place with the 14mm stud, and tighten to a snug fit.
  • Do the same with the other windshield wiper arm.
