Honda Accord: How to Replace Your Grille
Want to replace the boring, stock grille on your Accord with a new, shiny one? No matter what kind of grille you decide to put in its place, step one is getting the old one out.
This article applies to the Honda Accord (1990-2002).
Let's face it, the stock grille on a Honda Accord is nothing to get excited about. It's just a hunk of plastic intended not to offend anyone. That's great if you want to blend in with the crowd, but for Honda enthusiasts an upgrade is a must. If you want to replace your old one with a new, shiny grille, the job is very easy to do yourself. This DIY will save you a trip to the auto shop and a good amount of money.
Materials Needed
- Ratchet and 8 mm socket
- Flat head screwdriver
Step 1 – Remove bolts and depress tab
Open the hood. Along the top of the grille are five bolts holding the grill in place. There are two sets of bolts located on the left and right side of the grille. The last bolt is located below the hood latch. Use the ratchet with an 8 mm socket to remove all five bolts.
Then depress the tab, which is located underneath the right side of the grille. While pulling the grille forward, use a flat head screwdriver to depress the tab. The grille should slide right out.
Step 2 – Swap emblem from old grille to the new grille
With your screwdriver, pry off the clips that hold the emblem in place. Install the emblem to the new grille by snapping it into place. The emblem attaches to newer OEM grilles and some aftermarket ones.
Step 3 – Install the new grille
Line the grille up with the same tab the old one was removed from, and slide the grille in. You should hear it snap into place. Lastly, re-install the five bolts.
